High Magister

The High Magister is the supreme leader of the Magisters, the most powerful and wisest among them. Holding the highest authority within the order, the High Magister is responsible for guiding the Magisters in their eternal pursuit of knowledge and ensuring the neutrality and integrity of the Citadel. The position is held for life, and upon the passing of a High Magister, a new leader is elected by a council composed of the heads of the various Magister Enclaves spread across Leo.

Election and Role

The process of selecting a new High Magister is a solemn and meticulous affair. When a High Magister passes away, the heads of all recognized Enclaves convene at the Citadel of the Magisters to deliberate on the most suitable candidate. The decision is based on wisdom, magical prowess, and dedication to the principles of the Magisters. Political aspirations or external influences are strictly forbidden in this process, ensuring that only the most enlightened individual assumes the mantle of leadership.

Once elected, the High Magister takes residence in the Celestial Hall, the heart of the Citadel, where they oversee magical research, safeguard the most dangerous and sacred knowledge, and ensure that the Magisters remain true to their mission—the pursuit of universal understanding. The High Magister also acts as the ultimate arbiter in disputes among Magisters and is the only one with unrestricted access to the Grand Library's Forbidden Archives, where the most perilous and enigmatic texts are stored.

Notable High Magisters

Xelios Ravaryn (153 AC - 286 AC)

The first High Magister and one of the founding members of the order. A half-elf of unparalleled intellect and vision, Xelios Ravaryn oversaw the establishment of the Magisters as a respected and independent institution. Under his leadership, the first Enclaves were founded, and the Citadel itself was constructed as a bastion of knowledge. His tenure was marked by the formalization of magical disciplines and the first extensive studies of Eternal Essence.

Orren Velkaine (286 AC - 445 AC)

A master of cosmic magic and celestial observation, Orren Velkaine expanded the Magisters' knowledge of the planes of existence. He pioneered many of the modern theories regarding interplanar travel and the influence of Eternal Essence on the structure of reality. His leadership strengthened the Magisters’ neutrality, resisting attempts by political powers to coerce the order into warfare.

Vaelthar Eldwyn (445 AC - 739 AC)

One of the longest-serving High Magisters, Vaelthar Eldwyn was an enigmatic and deeply contemplative figure. He dedicated his reign to the study of ancient artifacts, especially the Eternal Shards, ensuring their power was kept in check. It was during his rule that the Citadel’s protective barriers were strengthened, further isolating the Magisters from external influence. His research into lost civilizations remains some of the most advanced knowledge of pre-Calamity history.

Selmiras Thorne (739 AC - Present)

The current High Magister, Selmiras Thorne, is a scholar renowned for his studies of arcane convergence and magical anomalies. Unlike his predecessors, he has shown greater openness toward collaboration with external factions, believing that selective knowledge-sharing can strengthen the stability of the Present Age. However, he remains fiercely protective of the Citadel’s most dangerous secrets. Under his leadership, new enchantments have been woven into the Citadel’s defenses, ensuring that even the most ambitious intruders would find themselves lost before reaching its gates.
