Passing

Summary

The "Passing" refers to the bridge between Estya, Arcadia, and Gehenna that a soul travels upon after death to reach the Estyans' perception of an afterlife. The most commonly accepted origin for this belief is with the predecesors of the Disciple Order that would later be folded within the Disciples' accepted mythos and spread across Estya. Variations of this bridge between worlds include "The Crossing" and "The Descent". Currently, the only place in Estya untouched by the belief in the Passing is the most isolated tribes within the Ramana Wood.

In Art

The Passing is typically depicted in bisected canvases, with Arcadia and the divine occupying the upper half, and Gehenna and the Demons in the bottom half, with a decpition of a soul caught in the middle. The most famous depiction of the Passing in paint is believed to be "The Descent" by an unknown artist, as the piece is unsigned. Its name is gotten through popular opinion and word-of-mouth, and while the full title of the painting is "The Descent of the Soul into Gehenna", given by historial researchers, only those in academia use the entire title.
