Witch’s Broomstick | E. Christopher Clark

Witch’s Broomstick

A Witch’s Broomstick is a popular tool for channeling magical energy. Though wands, staves, umbrellas, and pitchforks may be used for the same purpose, broomsticks are favored for long-distance travel. And because of this, many magic users figure: if I’m going to want a broom anyway, why bother with any of the other things?

Construction

While any broom can be enchanted, most wizards, warlocks, and witches choose to go with a custom build that’s tailored to their size. And since enchanted broomsticks are not typically used in housecleaning endeavors, part of the customization process typically involves binding the broom’s bristles into more aerodynamic and tapered shape.

Abilities

The broomstick, in and of itself, has no particular supernatural abilities. The only power it has is the power its owner brings to it.

That said, the subtle vibrations of the stick’s handle during flight are touted as nice ancillary benefit to traveling by broom.

Cost

If the broomstick is not regularly treated and polished, its user is likely to end up with splinters in uncomfortable and hard to reach places.

Limitations

Once enchanted, a witch’s broomstick bonds with the first sapient being to lay their bare skin upon the handle. Though others may attempt to use the broomstick, they will never get quite the same performance out of it—not until the original owner is deceased, that is, and not until the broomstick’s period of mourning is over.

Awww, period of mourning. Poor broomsticks. :(   I want a flying pitchfork though.

Hahaha, yes! I was doing some research about hypotheses of where "witches ride brooms" came from and one article included mention of pitchforks alongside brooms!

I'm waiting for the pitchfork article! And I see more sapience creeping into your items!

Everything's getting smarter. This could be good, or this could be very bad.
