Ealam is a 'kitchen sink' sort of world vaguely based on the real world. The technology level is fairly low overall, ranging from middle ages to early renaissance. Magic, while rare, is present. The study and physics of it are best described as a pseudoscience rather than a science proper. There are magical objects and locations about the world, however, imbued by gods or ancient powers.
The genre of the world is fluid. The primary influences are western fantasy, romantic fantasy and dark fantasy.
