The Gilded Rose
Previously an unremarkable watering hole for adventurers, the inn and taphouse The Gilded Rose is now a lively inn thanks to the Adventurers' Guild branch it hosts. The food is homely, and the atmosphere warm and humble. It neither a place claimed by nobility or nuisance-makers, but rather a common ground shared by both. Those in Mercerie are encouraged to visit the Rose. It is located but a short walk from the Emerald Theater House; follow Orsonne Road until it intersects the Street of Banners and turn left. You won't miss it.
History
The Gilded Rose is an old establishment, so old that it contentiously calls itself the oldest inn in the Tumble District. Upon its walls are the framed signatures of prominent patrons past. The addition of Adventurer Guild facilities of the inn, contrariwise, is relatively recent. Aliénor, the elven proprietor of the inn, invited the guild into the inn following aid she received from adventurers. The guild assisted with the cost of necessary expansions to the premises. The name of the establishment was given during its construction. The founder of the Rose, Aliénor's ancestor, saw a rose catching the morning sun. The rays had turned the white petals a vibrant gold, and as he stared at it, high on a balcony, his eyes met those of the woman he would one day marry. The founder named the establishment with the dream that clients would meet those who they were meant to meet beneath the inn's roof.
Clientele
Adventurers, both those native to the city and those from much further afield, are particularly prominent among the Rose's clientele. Adventurers are a varied lot when it comes to their material conditions. It is perhaps because of this variation that the Rose has become a place for people of all walks of life to comfortably meet. The diverse nature of the inn's clientele, and the concentration of adventurers within the inn results in some members of Mercerie society shunning the Rose, labeling it a house of ill repute.Menu
The Gilded Rose's menu contains the staples -- seasonal soups and stews and roasts -- but also a number of surprisingly delicate dishes. For the daring eater, there are a number of foreign items. These are primarily recipes contributed to the inn by foreign adventurers, or gleaned from Adventure Guild publications. The Rose's alcohol is largely of Cetoilais origin, but there are a few spiced Aragonian ales and wines for the discerning and affluent customer.
