Broken island

Broken island is an island that used to be a testing place for new spells and tecnologies until a spell made the island inhabitable. Since then, access to the island has been banned and the location of it has slowly been forgotten, only knowing that it was between Taat and Zarlor while going towards the north pole.

Geography

The island, created by a volcano, has an irregular shape, with the volcano (and thus the highest parts) in the south of it and a small flatland, that's a couple kilometers long, towards the north. In the southern and eastern coast, there are cliffs; the western coast is swampy and the northen one is a rocky beach.

Under the inactive volcano, there's a giant cave system that cover the southern half of the island. The island's surface is half covered by a forest and the other half by a swamp.

Flora and fauna

The island lacks lifeforms, albeit remains of a wildly diverse ecosystem can be seen throught the whole island. The forest that covers half the island is merely the lifeless corpses of the trees that used to live in the island. Skeletons and corpses that can be seen on the island's surface (and some caves) are patiently waiting for time to make them disappear, since the insects involved on the descomposition are dead as well.

Natural resources

The island is rich with metals (like copper and gold) and rare minerals (as quartz and magical crystals).

Why is it inhospitable?

A couple thousand years ago, a group of mages whom had been prohibited to proceed with their magical investigation found this island that no one seemed to know, and quickly claimed it as their own and started their prohibited investigation. Not long after the "desapparition" of the mages, one of them reapeared, almost dead, and quickly explained that the island had been rendered inhospitable because the spells he and his friends where investigation. Together with the explanation, the mage showed the island's localization and with that, a law that prohibited the approaching of the island quickly rose around the world.

Getting close to the island is a death sentence, albeit there's a small period where one can feel the symptoms and still turn around and stay alive. The first thing one feels is a figurative punch in their body as a big wave of corrupt mana enters their body. This wave of mana will start making one's body stop working, a numbness feeling around the extremities is the first indicator. After a couple dozens of minutes, the stomach and intestines will start to collapse, and after a couple hours, the brain and heart will stop.

Going back to safety is fairly easy to do if one realizes in time. When one feels the wave of mana hit their body, one should start getting away from the island. If they manage to get far enough and the numbing of limbs never starts, they will be safe. If the numbing starts but doesn't expand to all the limbs, it will take a bit to recover. Once out of the danger zone, draining one's mana is usually helpful, as it forces the corrupted mana to leave their bodies.

Geografia

L'illa, formada per un volcà, té forma irregular, amb el volcà (i per conseqüència les parts més altes) en el sud i una petita planícia que s'allarga un parell de kilòmetres cap al nord. A la cosa sud i est s'hi troba precipicis, la costa oest és pantanosa i la costa del nord és una platja de roques.

Sota el volcà, que està inactiu, hi ha un gran sistema de coves que recorren la meitat sud de l'illa. La superfície de l'illa està mig coberta per un bosc i la resta és pantanosa.

Flora y fauna

La isla carece de vida alguna, aunque restos de un ecosistema con una gran variedad biológica se puede observar. El bosque que cubre la mitad de la isla es meramente las cáscaras de los árboles que tiempo atrás vivían en el bosque. Esqueletos y cadáveres pueblan la superficie de la isla (e incluso algunas de las cuevas) esperan pacientemente que el tiempo les haga desaparecer, puesto que los insectos que participan en la descomposición también están muertos.
