Ensnaring is a weapon keyword that slows a creature on hit. No save required.
Trait Mechanic⚙️
If you hit a creature with a weapon with this trait and deal damage to it, you can reduce its Speed by 5 ft until the start of your next turn. This effect stacks, but a creature cannot be brought down below 5 ft from this trait.
As an example, instead of rolling an Athletics check, you may roll your Dexterity + your Proficiency Bonus with a Finesse⚙️ weapon to Shove another creature. This occurs with similar effects and keywords (such as Keen⚙️ and Zen⚙️)
Additionally, creatures you Grapple with this weapon are also considered Off-Guard to you, even if they are far bigger.
