Ability Description |
You grant sentience target Beast, Mythical Beast, or Plant; granting it intelligence, articulation, and a greatly increased lifespan. If it was previously a familiar or companion, it can choose to no longer serve as one.
At the end of the cast time of this spell, make an Knowledge: Esoterica or Knowledge Nature check, vs the creature's Threat Level (TL) + 20. If you succeed on the skill check, the target's Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma a raised up to 0, and its remaining lifespan is multiplied by 10. If you Critically Succeed, they gain +1 to those attributes for each critical increment, and its lifespan is also increased by 100 per increment. If you fail, the target is awakened as normal, but becomes hostile to you, and will attempt to destroy you for the trouble. If you critically fail, the target not only fails to Awaken, but will attempt to destroy you anyway. You may recast this spell in an attempt to gain a Success or Critical Success on the same creature, but only the strongest effect will take, and only once.
In addition to increased Attributes, the target gains the ability to speak Common and a number of languages you know equal to its Charisma (you pick which). The creature retains its animal features, actions, and other statistics, but its body can move like a humanoid creature's regardless of its prior functions and physiology (e.g. smiling with a beak, standing upright, holding items with vestigial thumbs, etc).
Despite occurring due to magic, this effect is not Magical for the sake of Anti-Magic effects, though its effects can be (temporarily) undone with certain effects like Diminish (see below).
