Etharian Ethnicity in Baeleris | World Anvil

Etharian

The Etharian people were at home in the central forests and mountain regions of Mortavia. They were affine to arcane magic and developed a lot of the modern principles of spellcasting, including the runes used to write and bind spells. While most Etharians were spellcasters of some sort, there were fighters among them as well, usually preferring the usage of finesse weapons or bows.

Between Light and Darkness

There were two major groups among the Etharian people. They were easily recognizable, since the magic they practiced had a tremendous impact on their bodies. No matter what group a specific Etharian belonged to, they shared some common traits with other Etharians.

Regardless of their species, Etharians were usually tall within their limits. The difference in height could range from five cm to twenty centimeters, depending on the parent species. Because of their homes in the dense forests of Mortavia, they were usually slender, with long, graceful muscles and delicate fingers.

The type of clothing they preferred changed depending on the occasion. More martial oriented Etharians preferred leather, wool and other robust materials, while most spellcasters loved long, flowing and delicately embroidered robes and tunics.

Dark Etharians

Dark Etharians had pale, ill-looking skin, which tended to be cold to the touch. Their eyes were usually bigger than usual for the parent species and had a dark color with a reddish glow in it. Their hair was long, usually dark, and often braided into elaborate hairstyles. They had a knack for dark, eldritch magic, which changed their bodies even more. With older Etharians, you could easily find some stranger skin colors, like a pale, light red or a deep purple. There were also horns or other signs of their magic usage.

Silver Etharians

Their counterparts on the light side of the spectrum had also pale skin, but it was much more shimmering, and on the opal-pale side. The eyes were smaller, and usually of a silver to light blue color. Their long hair was often light blonde to silver, flowing, with only small braids woven into the more natural hairstyle. They were users of a purer style of magic, which influenced their body over the years. There are legends about Silver Etharians who got powerful enough to survive without the need to feed or consume water. Some even lack the need to sleep.
