Tazuk (a.k.a. Tazzy)
The deck shakes and the new recruits look fearfully to each other. Deckhands clear away from them, avoiding eye contact with the lineup. Emerging from a small hut on the stern is a towering orc, who looks up towards the bow. His face is stone as he makes his way over to the new greenhorns, the deck rumbling with every footstep. He walks up to the first in the lineup, bending at the waist to look the man in the eye. The hulking beast pauses before a smile slowly creeps across his mouth. Leaning back he laughs, shaking the air.
Hello! Sorry for the scare, but it always gives the crew a good laugh.
The recruits turn to the other sailors, who are red-faced with laughter along with the towering orc.
I’m Tazuk, quartermaster on this fine vessel you all have decided to sign on to. Everyone here calls me Tazzy. I have one job: to make sure we have the manpower, tools, and hardware to keep this boat afloat. Now that sounds like a hard job, and it is! But it is one of the most important.
Tazuk begins to walk the line of greenhorns and going about introductions, the tension in the air all but gone.
Cap always says that this ship runs on the double L rule. Logic and Logs. It is my job to keep the logs, but up to you all for the logic part. If something breaks, tell me. If you find mold below decks, tell me. If something is getting low in the galley, tell me or Gus. Or just come by if you want to chat. Or learn your knots! Oh you will be learning all the knots!
Tazzy’s laughter shakes the air again.
We are to go below and work out bunkings now. After come by my quarters for a round of cards, got a good bottle of Ataraxis whiskey from a trader in port and there’s enough to share. Now! Let us get started and welcome aboard!
