Naeron
This embattled city now belongs to the Duchy of Croemerth after it and the surrounding territory were surrounded as part of the treaty that ended the war with Varga. This city, once one of the wealthiest in Varga, is now a powerful symbol of Croemerth's victory.
Defences
Naeron features an impressive array of defenses. Set on top of a large hill overlooking the flat landscape around it, the defenders of Naeron had a 360° view of any attack. The hexagonal walls also featured gates made entirely of iron, the only such city in all of Varga. These defenses were largely destroyed during the war with Varga.
Industry & Trade
Naeron made its wealth through mining, like many other Vargan cities, but not through silver. The land around Naeron has vast deposits of copper, tin and zinc as well as a wealth of marble and granite. The grassland region around Naeron is some of the only flat, open land in Varga and therefore the Naeron region was home to a majority of the livestock in Varga before the war.
Infrastructure
Naeron's construction and architecture are a reflection of its history and wealth. As the second oldest capital of Varga, Naeron has seen many years, and many different trends in architecture. Naeron is also the font of some of Varga's great achievement. In fact, Naeron is home to the first examples of the iconic Vargan aqueduct, first used to bring potable water into the city and later expanded to provide water to the extensive mining and quarrying operations of the city. Most of the aqueducts are still in use today.
The city of Naeron is unique in its construction when compared to the other Vargan cities. The city is built primarily of granite pulled from the nearby quarries with accents of brass and bronze; this sets the city apart from others built with more conventional materials.
Guilds and Factions
Naeron was the financial center of Varga, and was home to five different banking associations run by different families: the Hanali Banking Syndicate, run by the elven Hanali family; The Seven Brothers Banking Group, run by the dwarven Sigimund family; Crannock & Sons, run by the human Crannock family, The Naeron Municipal Bank, run by the human Sercombe family; and the Brass Dragon Company, run by a group out of Croemerth.
After Naeron was ceded to the Duchy the Hanali Syndicate and Crannock & Sons banking groups left Naeron. The other three quickly grew in their absence and profited mightily.
