Pump the Breaks in APRA: Anomalous Parks & Recreation Areas | World Anvil

Pump the Breaks

Ash spent the past day reciting poetry at an agonizingly slow pace, while I audibly counted the seconds one by one. I have never been this bored in my entire life, but with the combined efforts of her and various personnel, the car finally stopped! The fresh air has never felt better! I'm only taking boats, planes, and helicopters for the next few weeks— no more cars, please.   We could probably have gotten out without the aid of personnel, but I thank you for getting us out faster. Unfortunately the budget we'd use to give you bonuses was spent on these emails. The Cloud is a hungry beast, and it only accepts cash.

I'm never getting in a car with Bin again, unless it's an emergency. Thank you everyone for your efforts.
— Ash Ngo, APRA Director
You idiots left the door open, and now I am going to go fast! Forever!
— Saif Mazri, Zoomi CEO
God, no! Someone stop him— I left my wallet in there!

Author's Notes

Thanks everyone for riding along this year! This was a weirder concept, I know, but I hope it was still fun for folk! I wanted to try something beyond just twisting classic monsters, and had to change the plans I'd set out months in advance because they uh...they revolved around Ellie Dusk (APRA's Elon Musk), who at the start of October was very much not a relevant figure in the news, and was thus way less funny. Little did I know that it would've been perfect timing given the past few days, whoops!   Still, I think the Raceist worked out well! The original idea I worked off of was a single pun: "Escape Vroom" and there was a lot of ideating around making an escape room car and how that could work out, and how an escape room setup was a perfect situation for some character interactions and such. Even with my outline done weeks in advance, it was only like, a day before that the narrative side of things truly solidified— when I came up with the Raceist idea and all that fun stuff. Until then I didn't have a solid answer to "why is this car sentient?" and "why is it taking Bin and Ash to an abandoned race track in Florida?"   I tried to do a more complex puzzle this year, which y'all saw with day 2— I'm pretty happy with it but definitely think I learned an important lesson with it: I need to remember that some phrases/wordplay things are distinctly American and migh leave international readers confused. So if next year's puzzle involves wordplay, I'll be better about that!   If anyone has feedback on the event this year please do share it with me, so I can make 2023 even better! We've still got Christmas coming in a few months, too, which will be a smaller event!

Quite liked this ! It was fun and interesting to do! Would have liked to have more time to put more effort for the puzzles. (Im not good at feedback so I'll later make a friend make it and help me give you some feedback)
