Heomenome Condition in Wynsumheord | World Anvil

Heomenome

A bite from the venom of a Slumadragon, due to its highly concentrated venom created through its consumption of Slumaberry, will cause immediate deep slumber.   This term can also be used for a coma caused by ingesting a large amount of Slumaberries, or having Slumaberry sap enter your bloodstream through other means.

Transmission & Vectors

This condition can be caused in a being through a venomous bite from a Slumadragon. The reason for this is the fact that the Slumadragon diet primarily consists of Slumaberries. The digestive system of the lizards processes the nutrients of the tranquilizing fruit and collects the sedative properties into their venom glands. This super-concentrated compound is stored for self-defense.   Another way for Heomenome to develop in a being is if they consume Slumaberries in excess, or are otherwise exposed to or poisoned by large amounts of the berries' sap.    The severest forms of this condition are not commonly self-induced due to the fact that, when voluntarily consuming Slumaberries, one will most often fall asleep before consuming enough of the poisonous berry to put one to sleep for longer than a few days.

Symptoms

The most common cases of Heomenome consist of a death-like, still and excessive slumber. Though this is true, there are also rare cases of Heomenome have caused victims to sleepwalk, sleeptalk, or make strange movements all while unconcious.

Treatment

The most effective treatment is allowing the victim to accomplish their rest and awaken naturally after the venom passes through their system.

Prognosis

Depending upon the severity of the bite, the size of the lizard, and the amount of venom transferred, the length of sleeping time could range anywhere from a few minutes to several weeks. This condition does not usually result in death but can potentially lead to other sicknesses or conditions due to the fact that, during sleep, the victim's body is deprived of essentials such as exercise and nourishment from food. Also, depending on where the victim is located at the time of the bite, and how quickly the venom kicks into effect, the predicaments and the environments that surround the victim can cause greater peril; for, as they slumber, they know not what happens about them and can therefore fall prey to beasts, men, or natural dangers.

Sequela

When a victim recovers from Heomenome, they may be in a state of confusion. Sometimes, the victim will suffer from short-term memory loss and not even recall the events that lead up to their current state. The longer the victim is asleep, the greater the chances of amnesia. Other times, the victim recalls nearly everything, but still has difficulty recuperating due to other factors that have come into play after they were bitten unconscious.

Prevention

The best method of avoiding Heomenome is to stay away from Slumadragons.
