Jireh Species in Wynsumheord | World Anvil

Jireh

Jireh is a rare plant of the Jeho family that can be found in various wildlands all over Wynsumheord. The plant absorbs more nutrients from the sun, soil, and water around it than it needs, so it begins secreting a liquid that disburses the leftover vitamins and energy to nearby plants. This is why Jireh is heavily saught after as a fertilizer of crops. Many successful farmers plant a couple of Jireh sprouts in each crop to ensure a bountiful harvest.   Due to the properties that cause hyperabsorbtion, the Jireh is usually found in single sprouts surrounded by a plethora of other plants. Once the Jireh plant begins to flower, it will no longer expel the nutritious liquid from its roots. Instead, all properties are directed into the flower itself which makes the Jireh flower common for boiling into a tea-like mixture that, once cooled, is sprinkled over plants who are struggling to thrive.   In the wild, after the flowers bloom and fully mature (if they are not eaten by local fauna), they shrivel up and eventually mulch back into the dirt, feeding the Jireh to reinitiate its sprouting cycle.   The plant itself never develops into anything else. It continuously carries out its provisional cycle unless interrupted by being picked, eaten, stepped on, or the like.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

The Jireh sprout has been studied by many in Wynsumheord who are curious to see how exactly the plant comes to be. The flowers don't seem to contain seeds, and it never appears to grow any greater than what is often considered a sprout or seedling. It is suspected that the Jireh is some sort of anomaly of another known plant, which would explain its rarity. Another conclusion is that the properties found within certain animals or their diets when combined with the Jireh Flower fertilize dormant seeds before being excreted from the beast that has consumed it. Due to this theory, the feces of several species has been examined, but nothing yet has been proven. The Jireh is a true wonder from The Shining Lord.
As I examine this plant in an enclosed environment, my heart marvels at the wondrous cycle that it performs. Whenever it is found, it seems to be only some sort of sprout. As it absorbs sunlight, water, and minerals, it disburses whatever it cannot use into the soil around it. After about a fortnight, it ceases this process and begins concentrating all its energy into blooming these lovely flowers. Delicate in beauty, silky pink and light purple petals of a divine fragrance. It is no question why these sweet-smelling blooms are eaten by much of the herbivorous and omnivorous wildlife. But, here in the enclosed environment, the flower sadly withers without being put to any use...except, it is put to use. Within days, it breaks down and is absorbed by the soil as the Jireh lives out another two weeks expelling its nutritious liquid from its roots, before devoting time to sprouting another lovely flower once more. We have studied this one for over a year and there is no sign of it stopping any time soon. It never grows into anything more, nor does it produce any offspring. This is a most fascinating and curious thing occurring before our very eyes. Master Moriel is quite astounded, but Father and Brother don't seem at all to care whenever I update them on the status of this amazing work of art crafted by God himself...but my disjointed personal ramblings have diverged from the topic. I will continue exploring Jireh and documenting its progress in this vast glossary of plant knowledge.   -An excerpt from Syndri's Guide to the Botanical Curiosities of Wynsumehord

So do the farmers who have it go and find it in the wild? Fascinating. I hadn't seen THIS world of yours before. Now I need to read more!

oo lol thanks! I'm glad you happened upon it. this is my medieval fantasy world. I've had many worlds for a long time. I had this one on WorldAnvil I think before I put Secret Agent Someone up. But I took a poll from my community which genres I should work on, so WILLOWISP came out on top. I still write short stories and work on other things when I can, but my brain has too many stories in it! I'll never be able to publish anything if I don't focus lol ':D

I hear THAT! But focusing is like choosing a favorite child... not possible for me. I try to take turns...
