The Chronicles of Evalaw

One prime principle we have been trying to achieve is to reimagine classic fantasy races, that are familiar to us, and breath new life into them, so they aren't as stale and cliché as one would expect. There is no defined good and evil races, some maybe perceived as evil or just due to cultural histories or traditions that deem them to be seen as such.   An example of our attempts to break away from such stereotypes is our race the Dral'azie. For those in the know, they are closely related to classic D&D Drow, and Dark Elves from various books and media. Our mission really was to have Drow without Lolth, to break away from the leather bound, spider worshiping cliché. Now it must be said, it is not a clean break, spiders, living underground and matriarchy are still an integral part of the Dral'azie. But the prominence of the Spider Goddess has been drastically diminished, becoming one of a pantheon of seven equally as devious and powerful entities. The entire concept was to look at the Dral'azie, a species spread throughout underworld of Evalaw, loosely tied together with common ancestry. This brought the notion that there would develop different ethnic groups with their own distinct society, customs and culture. Though outwardly similar in rhetoric and values, they would be different enough to stand apart, as one would see with human societies. So the most logical thing was to look at what binds traditional Drow together, to be one homogenised entity. That's why Lolth had to die, and be replaced with Suul'vilith - The Goddess of Shadow, Spiders, Deception and Secrets..
