Permanent Militia

The national military forces of the Central Authority. It was established during the Second Interstellar Period, but unlike human nations, Authority citizens never put much reverence or tradition into it, viewing it more as a regrettable necessity. After the Stellar Compact's foundation it was folded into the Star Patrol and International Peacekeepers, becoming defunct outside of ceremonial roles.

Service was based on the idea that those who have benefited the most from society should contribute more to its defense--the old and rich were the first called up (after rejuvenation, of course), and any government which declared a war was automatically inducted into front-line service. Young members were exclusively volunteer, and rather rare.
