Columbian Secret Service
The Columbian Secret Service is the official bodyguard corps and security force for the President of the Third Republic of Columbia, one of the most politically prominent American-descended nations among the Independent American States. Its primary role consists of ensuring the President's physical security from all threats foreign and domestic.

Secret Service agents are often, but not always, veterans of the Columbian national defenses or one of the Stellar Compact armed services. They undergo extensive training covering a wide variety of situations, and aside from the mysterious Freedom Corps, they are usually considered to be the most elite branch of the Columbian armed services.
Equipment
If they have not already gotten them from prior service, agents typically receive a suite of cybernetic and genetic augmentations designed to, among other things, improve reflexes and situational awareness. The exact details are kept classified.
Weaponry
Agents most commonly carry small arms such as laser and Gauss pistols, which are easily concealed in their outfits, while locations they guard, such as the Presidential residence, have military-grade defenses such as anti-aircraft systems and threat-detection engines built in.
Vehicles
Secret Service agents can most commonly be seen riding around in sleek black ground and air cars, but have access to military-grade vehicles should a crisis erupt.

History
The Columbian Secret Service traces its history back to the original Secret Service of Ancient America, an organization which has since become quasi-mythical in American culture. From this is derived things like the agents' patterns of dress (dark suits and sunglasses, usually) and the general public image which they project.
Previous governments of Columbia had their own Secret Services, save for the time of the Spartan Occupation during the Interstellar Dark Ages. This one was established along with the Third Republic towards that period's end.
