Chapter VIII: Olfell
Relics of Ochrid
General Summary
Fumbling from the portal above, you all find yourselves on the carpeted floor with the aroma of old books about you. There are many sets of elven eyes staring your way. An elderly elf with a large walking stick approaches with intrigue.
Landing in the High Archives of Olfell, the adventurers are soon approached a librarian by the name of Aeothewyn. Telling the librarian of the exploits from their experience on Hades, the enamored Aeothewyn pleasantly welcomes the blood-caked, disheveled heroes into the elven city. Warning them to be careful with the books and the steer clear of the arcane door, he offers them the opportunity to peruse the archives at their leisure.
Disinterested in the study, Juniper wanders the archives using his magical awareness to take note of all the magical energies nearby, particularly the door which seems to teem with Abjuration and Evocation. Due to the number of eyes on him, he decides to leave the door alone for now and exits the archives. Descending a spiral staircase that disappears into the clouds, June finds himself teleported to the main square of the elven city. Getting acquainted with his surroundings, he finds himself at a spa and decides to treat himself to much-needed respite.
Meanwhile, Adriak was presented with a large, soft, very comfortable cushion that he took no time lounging against and quickly falling asleep. Bombarded with a vision of Indryth's past, he finds himself reliving an event of him as the entity trudging throughout the deserts, eventually collapsing at the foot of a civilization surrounding an oasis. Years go by as Adriak relives the passions and memories of affection for a young prince who saved the now powerless Indryth. Falling in love with the mortal, Indryth offers him a token of her affection in the shape of a blackened glass rose swirling with iridescent lights akin to a starry night. The prince declines the object and Indryth grows maddened with fury, jumping him from behind and producing a krised blade lacerating the prince's throat before fleeing. Adriak rouses from his slumber unmoved from his previous location.
Hitting the books and researching several topics, Zal sees Adriak wandering around with a look he was familiar with after Adriak was wrought with nightmares. Flagging the cervitaur over, they have a wholesome chat and Zal explains that he may have found a possible answer to sever the soul of Indryth from him with an ancient relic known as the Sky Cleaver which has the wondrous ability to sever anything from anything, be it material or metaphysical, truth or untruth. The cervitaur lowers his guard momentarily and gives heartfelt appreciation to the goliath for all he and June have done for him. After the exchange of gratitude, Adriak takes to the street for some well-needed rest and relaxation, eventually meeting up with June who is more than happy to assist him in whatever ways he can.
