History

Songwaith tired of the criminals who sought his home forest of Floe Wood in Kormice. Usually the trolls in the foothills took care of them, but some managed to invade his home. Having enough, he rallied his neighbors to confront the local baroness to capture the criminals. She agreed but with one condition: they had to build the cell.   Songwaith knew exactly where to place the thing. He and his neighbors quarried stone from the less troll-infested foothills and brought them to the building site. They built it on a dead magic zone, one of the largest in the area. This proved difficult since the town's wizard could not help in any way. They persevered and laid the final stone only 10 months after starting construction. A local smith made iron bars fit into it for protection and great trees were felled to provide the wooden supports necessary.   The baroness was impressed and named Songwaith the head warden, a title he took to fondly. They began rounding up the criminal vagabonds and incarcerated them. With fervor they captured and brought the guilty to justice. The Constables praised the prison and encouraged the baroness to grant them funding for their efforts. Indeed, crime was now considerably lower now, and Ridgegate, the closest city, had began to flourish. The guards pushed the criminals to Floe Wood who were then captured and held or executed in the prison.   As the building grew in size to accommodate the growing population, so did its reputation. Many came to see the gray-brick walls in the dead magic zone. Many a sorcerer-criminal tried their best to spring their cells, but to no avail. Some were driven mad having to go without the magic that granted them so much power and comfort. The prison is still in existence and operation today, though it is not as populated.

Tourism

The tourists who arrive are usually guards or law officers who wish to see the best of the best prison systems. Some come to try to spring their fellows, but none have ever escaped the compound.
