Government
Pinerest is ruled by Commander Vothraz. The Commander has been in power for a few months and is both feared and ridiculed by the people. There is open opposition to the Commander and policies. His right to rule was granted by forgery, through the machinations of and that power is maintained through spying and assassination.
Defences
The city was long defended only by a flimsy wooden palisade and the fury of its inhabitants. When the city fell to the Blanchin, the invaders fortified the existing defences, expending the city and building a stone wall around it. along with towers to spot potential attackers. Those upgraded defences have repulsed many an attack by various forces seeking the wealth of the city.
Industry & Trade
Most of the townsfolk are crafters of some kind with nearly as many being merchants. Two of the most important manufactured and exported materials that the town is famous for are steelwood and speckled oak. Pinerest jealously guards the secrets of its woodsmen as those trees, though not extremly rare, are notoriously hard to mass-cultivate.
Infrastructure
The limestone walls surrounding the city were built by the Blanchard Dynasty to replace the original wooden palisades and the Free City has obviously decided to keep the feature. They have also started to work on resurfacing the roads, though the streets of Grimecall are still little more than dirt tracks. Following the defeat of the Blanchian forces, the guilds rose and both the merchants and crafts guilds using Pinerest as a place to trade have long agreed to work together in order to maintain the main trade routes in and out of the city.
Assets
Pinerest is a major centre for the crafting of pretty much anything that is not magical. Weapons, armour, tools and more, all can be found here at some point or another. Quality will vary from the downright crude to extraordinary masterpieces made using superior techniques and maybe even long-forgotten secrets. Major crafting guilds all have at least a foothold here as do many a merchant guild.
Guilds and Factions
The High Council is the official faction in power in the city. It is a group chosen from and of representing the townspeople of Pinerest.
The Lost Power is a rising political faction of which Mace Vothraz is the current figurehead.
The Forsaken Roses is one of the major thieving guilds in Pinerest and is strongly opposed to the High Council as they have started to impose restrictions on liberties and trading practices in the city and its surroundings.
The Ravensmiths are a smithing guild and well-known arms providers even as far as Holafiel, Verdelio and Clerzieu. With their headquarters in Pinerest rather than the larger Eaglehaven, they tend to prefer staying out of politics. However, the restrictions that the High Council is putting in place are not popular with the Ravensmiths as they are stifling their abilities to get crafting materials from the Dragon Range and beyond.
Natural Resources
Situated by the Snake Woods, an extension of the Pine Forest, the city has relatively easy access to a wealth of wooden materials, in particular pine, oak, yew and the incredible steelwood. Many a deposit of clay can be found around the surrounding hills along with some granite and marble. There are 5 active mines less than a day's cart ride away producing good amounts of iron, copper and coal ores. Further up the mountains, mithril can be found.
