Teldrinne Constellation

An Old Fae painted in the Skies

The Teldrinne constellation is a well-known constellation throughout Dysvoll and is considered one of the most recognizable ones on the night sky. Officially, it's considered to be made up of 14 stars.
The Constellation of Teldrine is dear to us, as a people.   She has led us through tough times, through the dark nights and guided us in times of need.
Ilk-nean Elder
The constellation is named after Teldrinne, a legendary Old Fae worshipped in the Ilk-nean Faith and considered the protector of the Ciples, by the Ciples themselves.   The constellation looks like a person standing up straight with an object above her head. The object differs from culture to culture, but it's often either considered a sword or a shield.

Different cultures, different perceptions

A Historical Warrior

The Hanes see the constellation as being named after a historical figure. They believe that Teldrinne was an old fae with a lot of magical powers and that she once lived in the area around Kanden, shaping the land in the progress.   However, they do not see her as a god nor as a protector. Rather they see her as a warrior and hail her for conquering the land and giving it to the humans after leaving the Human Realms.   Therefore, in their perception, Teldrinne is holding a sword as she is on a conquest to take over more land.

A Benovolent Deity

The Ciples belong to the Ilk-nean Faith and as such hail Teldrinne as a deity. They believe she created their people as well as their home, Alinage. Alinage was shaped created specifically for them and therefore is the holy motherland of the ciples.   In their perception, the top cluster of stars represents a shield as she is seen as a benevolent god, a protector of her followers. Furthermore, they focus on more that just the main 14 stars. Below her are multiple small clusters of stars usually not counted as a part of the constellation, but they are said to represent either the ciples as she protects them from danger.

Navigation

Other than being important culturally, the constellation is also important for navigation. The star at the "top" of the shield or sword is called Lugeas and is one of the most common stars to navigate after. It was used by the Hanones for hundreds of years as they fared the seas and it's still used by sailors today.

I love that the constellation differs in what it represents depending on the culture. It really adds to the worldbuilding!
