Kyath Ennore

Demographics

Owing to its central location in the Kingdom of Avalyra, Kyath Ennore reflects the diversity of the country around it to a great degree; with large populations of Human, Elf and Dwarf, along with an unsurprising amount of Half-Elf individuals. Many other races are a common sight in the city, with many of them being far more common than in other towns, owing to the mayor's policies of acceptance and welcoming. These policies, and the viscount's own proclivity for walking the city and welcoming unfamiliar faces, have led to Kyath Ennore having the reputation of being a haven for travellers. A warmer welcome is unlikely to be found anywhere else in the world, and certainly won't be found in any of the major cities.

Government

The city mayor is viscount Garratt Howkin, a rotund and jovial man who can usually be found wandering the town, chatting to cityfolk and welcoming travellers alike, if he isn't helping out the citizens directly. He is well loved throughout the town, with a great reputation as a mayor and an individual. However, it is an open secret that much of the administrative work is actually undertaken by his younger brother and assistant, Berolt Howkin.

Guilds and Factions

The city is most famous for the Bard's College in the centre of town. Locals often remark that the name 'Bard's College' is rather uninspired for a group of supposed creatives. The college hold concerts and feasts on a regular basis, making them very popular throughout the town, particularly those with less to their name.

History

Kyath Ennore was founded long before the kingdoms of Avalyra and Tiarun were formed. Originally established by elves as a simple farming community, its central location in the Kingdom of Avalyra led it to becoming a hub of trade and travel.

Points of interest

Kyath Ennore is well known for having a large number of taverns for its size. Several of these are well known throughout the city, even making a name for themselves across the wider kingdom.
  • Puzzled Cow Tavern, a tavern and inn run by a human, Edwin Morgan. They cater for those who aren't welcome or can't afford elsewhere.
  • The Squirming Medusa, a tavern run by a dragonborn, Coyotl. Famous for being the only place to sell Dragon's Breath mead, a delightfully sweet and refreshing drink with hints of spice.
  • The Chatty Spirit, run by a dwarf, Thuruth Orehelm. Renowned for their food, particularly for having delicacies from across Avalyra and beyond.
  • Sweetwater Inn, run by an elf, Fayeth Arahana. While they have limited food and drink, they provide some of the most comfortable beds any traveller could ask for.
  • The Thundering Moustache, run by a human, Roderick Fulgar. Known throughout Kyath Ennore and beyond for their incredible range of drinks, from the cheapest swill to the highest of top shelf beverages.
  • The Vixen's Den, run by a human, Katalina Masalis. Alongside the trappings of a usual inn and tavern, Katalina is a famed information broker, able to use her networks of informants to find out anything... for a price.

Geography

Kyath Ennore is situated along a river that flows through the northern edge of the city. It is surrounded by farmland, nourished by a network of irrigation trenches from the river. In the western part of town lies Dragonfly Pond, a large lake surrounded by buildings. The pond is named for small insects, roughly the size of a coin, that breathe tiny gouts of flame when threatened.
