Ossein

Born on a barren world the Osseins have fought through generations of strive to survive let alone make a working society. Osseins are a symbiotic parasite that once it takes root in a creature it produces a bone like exoskeleton on the creature acting as further protection. As once it is chosen a host it can no be removed without dying. As it uses the host own cells and proteins to complete the process which can take up to two years to complete. Osseins infect who every they can to survive and fortunately take on the intelligences of the race it inhabits. On the planet Aravath you will see many creatures with flayed skin and outward bone structure. A primitive race of desert dwellers came to worship the Ossein as they used them for survival. It was this action that allow the Ossein to breed without worry. For Centuries the cultivation of the parasite lead to a prosperous symbiotic relationship. The Ossein main challenge was to be eaten and not die in the process to start affecting the host. Being the size of a children fist that was no small feat. When the Ossein were discovered the status of their planet and what they were deemed them unfit for uplifting. But some Ossein Parasites were able to crawl onto the ship. 4 years later the planet was visited again but by their follow Osseins, they used this to expand to 2 other planets before the were confronted with alliation but instead of fighting they surrendered hoping to appease the invaders. It has kept the Ossein in a state of probation and current talks our going on to see what is to be done about this seeming non-hostile parasite.
