Drakkin Species in Xeovis | World Anvil

Drakkin

Drakkin, (Dragonkin, Dragonborn), are a race within the world of Xeovis. Most drakkin are accepting of other races, given that their blood is not pure dragon. They venerate dragons, especially ancient dragons, but most have never seen a real dragon in their life. The highest concentration of drakkin are in the Divine Kingdom of Sala, to the south and west of Ideia and to the northwest of Carildeia on the eastern continent.

Clans

While they are a kingdom, most groups fall into clans, similar to noble houses of other nations. One may be marked as a clan member, but unless one is the leader or high-ranked family within the clan, the struggles will be the same for them as the lower clans. Poverty, starvation, injury at work, menial labor, frontline fodder for war, etc.

Clan Kenal

Clan Kenal is the most prominent clan in the kingdom. Most clan members are born with more dragonlike features, such as elongated faces and heavy scaling, though few have protruding horns. Those that do are considered high status and given special treatment from birth. They are a warrior clan, and any who do not excel at fighting and follow the calling of the warrior are shunned, sometimes banished if they pursue anything other than training as a warrior. Intelligence beyond that needed for battle is unnecessary in their eyes, as they believe that that is what the lower clans and slaves are for. A notable character exiled from the Kenai clan is Kenai Kenal.

Clan Kreazak

Clan Kreazak is the secondmost prominent clan in drakkin society, though they are not warriors. The Kreazak clan is primarily made up of crafters such as alchemists and enchanters. Few have the talent for magic, so enchanting is very rare within the clans. The clan is treated poorly by the Kenal clan, even though they provide the necessary potions and enchantments to survive a war. Their crafters are top-notch, and many of their more experienced alchemists are as good as elvish alchemists, though the clan would vehemently disagree and state that they are better than the puny elves.

The Civil War of Sala

Nearly three-hundred years ago, a massive battle reduced the number of drakkin within the world, decimating cities within the nation. A clan which no longer exists thanks to the war, attempted to usurp the throne of Eyriverfi. During that time, the nation was embroiled in turmoil, pushing tensions to a new high, culminating in an attempted overthrow of the king. It was unsuccessful, as the pretender to the throne lacked the might to fight against a the Kenal Clan and the king of the country. The Kenal Clan, being the best warriors of the race, is loyal to the throne, especially when one of their own sits upon it.
