History
Named for
House Etan, one of the nine major noble houses at the founding of
Anhara, this lake has played host to their capital since the dawn of the nation. In the center of Lake Etan sits
Genesee, the island seat of House Etan, from which they held control over the northern half of the Vestrial Downs until
The Crossing Over. Following Vestria's exit from the mortal plane, the northern half of the Etan family's territory was lost to their former vassal,
House Meadowbrook. Most importantly, they lost control of the northern half of Etan's Stream, the river leading from the sea to the lake.
Geography
Lake Etan is the only bifurcating lake within the lands known to Anhara, as
Etan's Stream flows both north to the sea, and south to
Sagina Bay. It is also the second largest of the great lakes of Anhara, just edging out
Lake Helen for this title. To the west of Lake Etan sits the mountains of the Coquet Heights, where water from streams and runoff from the mountaintops feed the lake continuously. As well as providing the source of the water for Lake Etan, they also form a natural barrier, making the western coast of the lake rocky and largely impassible, forcing travelers along the forest to the east or by boast past Genesee's island in the center.
