It has now been yet another year across the World of Vreathe and Beyond. My travels have taken me far beyond the reaches of Meliheal the World Tree to some truly fantastic and interesting worlds, challenging my understanding of what is possible. So once again I publish this yearly volume to tell my readers what I found in other worlds beyond my own, to inform and inspire.
Notes
I screw around and do a small bit of in-universe writing for these each year from the point of view of Salika, a person who is known to travel to other worlds.
Actual author's notes are under this section on all pages.
I will also post the article block, and a link to the author's page in each entry.
Graeco-Buddhism
((by
Kefkejaco))
My travels first took me to an all too familiar world. I have seen thousands of variations of it playing out exactly the same... but something was definitely a little different here. As is always the case with other worlds like this, One decision can change the course of history, it has led to one of the most interesting religions I have experienced in many years.
This is an almost perfect fusion of two wildly different religions, and I didn't think it was possible, but the world of Terra Occidentalis proved me completely wrong.
- Salika
Notes
The way Greek Gods is integrated into Buddhism here is really amazing work. Kefkejaco goes through great pains to make sure that aspects of both religions are integrated into each other but also doesn't forget that they are very different religions and some rules are going to be broken (like drinking alcohol and eating meat).
Gives me several ideas for how to approach the religion of Vreathe. Since the Gods there were real and existed until around 3,000 years ago when they were kicked off the world, their influence is still everywhere. Doesn't mean there won't be different beliefs depending on the part of the world.
Rosepetal Languages
((by
Kittymonster))
I spent a little bit of time in the Rosepetal Galaxy, and of that, I only spent a handful of hours reading about the Voehn language and its history and roots in Proto-Gjevasudit. The many vowels, consonants, and segmentals of Voehn seemed infuriatingly complex at first glance, but I started to have an understanding of the sounds after some time.
I'm no linguist and I don't speak very many languages. I usually just have that fairy Xana translate everything that I don't understand myself! But this language is worth following and returning to in the future as I am a little interested in seeing how sentences and ideas are formed with such a complex assortment of sounds.
- Salika
Notes
Even with just the grammar and history, voehn is already starting to feel like a complete, believable language, and it makes me want to try again with a language I abandoned two years ago.
Proto-Gjevasudit is an excellent overview of the language family. It even has creoles, something I would have never thought of in worldbuilding.
Deadlights
((by
basiliskeye))
Nope! I've been on the world of Ida for less than an hour and I want nothing to do with the world already! I was told about these Deadlights with their strange incomprehensible forms, their many eyes, and their hatred for life. I've seen strange things like this a million times on a million worlds, but never with swirling eyes like this one. Definitely memorable to be sure!
Also, I can appreciate capitalism... Raven Nest Self Defense advertising their emergency survival paks to me, immediately after I was told about this horrifying monster was very effective! I bought probably more than I should have, as well as a Survival guide. I didn't put any of it to use. While I would have loved to see the Lastwood I had to be on my way.
- Salika
Notes
Writing about indescribable beings of cosmic horror are hard to do but basiliskeye did an excellent job with it.
The Deadlight Survival guide article is an excellent companion to the Deadlights article, going into more detail about their size and what to do and not do when outside the safety of the city.
Ajax
(by
Worldwildbuilder)
I came across a strange red and orange tail feather. Actually several. There were scorch marks all over the trees and burned leaves on he ground. Something got into a fight here and I imagine the creature with the fire magic was the winner.
- Salika
Notes
Very well written article about a large-ish parrot-like bird with fire abilities.
Ravagers
(by
GoldenPants1
There is no shortage of beast men in other worlds that if left unchecked, could easily destroy humanity. I suppose it's a good thing the gods of this world get involved, though I also imagine the story is a little more complex than that...
- Salika
Notes
This well written article about beastmen doesn't waste any time and tells you all you need to know about their simple ways.
My world has a plethora of these types of people and I have barely described them... I should probably fix that this year...
Lôxin LX -
Mushroom Harvester
(By
Blue Fairy 74 )
I came across the plans for a curious insect-shaped machine on my travels. Seems small like it was designed for goblins, but it is a genius design, able to harvest mushrooms without damage.
- Salika
Notes
The image of the blueprint and the image of the machine really helped to sell the article. Now I want to make a technical blueprint for the airship I'm working on...
Fluffy Bunny Catchers
(by
Colonel 101)
You can't be serious...Wait, you are?
Notes
The title made me laugh, but the article is 100% serious, maybe. possibly...
I've been working on an article titled "Farm Mage" and it's as ridiculous as it sounds, but seeing Colonel 101's approach to a profession of vermin catchers makes me want to finish my own ridiculous sounding article, eventually.

Total Articles I read/liked this year: 929
SC Pledges: 54
SC Articles: 151
WE Pledges: 43
WE Articles: 241
For every 2.22 articles I read/liked during this year, 1 of my articles recieved a like, which actually is not a bad ratio all things considered. A lot of people always wonder how to get people to read/like your work.
It's called putting in the effort.
That said, the reward for the effort is very mismatched in some cases. for example, during the Treasured Companions competition, I interacted with 140 articles (I normally read/like most of the challenge entries). My article got 28 likes, so a ratio of 5 to 1. As another example, some users never touch my work at all no matter how much I interact with their worlds. I will be shuffling around the worlds I follow this year, but that's a thought for another time...
Most Liked Articles of 2023
((Not including meta/blog articles like Summercamp or World Ember))
Entry for treasured companions. I put way, way more effort into this than I probably should have for such a minor character.
Actually an article made in 2022, but It didn't get a single like until 2023 when I entered it in the worldbuilding awards and it was nominated.
First article for WorldEmber 2023, and it was easily one of the articles I put the most effort into during the month of December (aside from the Ekandra article). Aerynn is now the most liked of my major character articles, the other 7 of which I need to rewrite in some way in 2024.

I did two days of prep work for making 30 different species of Aquatic lizard for my sci fi world, but I only made 5... Also, there's a certain charm to my slightly cruder digital artwork compared to the uncanny midjourney stuff... I need to draw more...
Longest Article (11,884 Words)
Another high effort article, that got so large I had to start spliting it into multiple articles, and even then it was over 12,500 words at one point. If you include the
God-Blood Crystals that are in their own article, plus the ones I wrote individually in some attempt to make the article shorter, I have a total of 19,149 words just on various little stones and crystals and what happens to them when charged with magic. This is going to need something done to streamline the information and have a shorter reference article. It's a goal for the year.
My Personal Favorite Article
I kind of sucked at writing characters for a long time, so I spent a lot of effort writing the first of my major characters. It took almost a month and I rewrote it several times. Still a bit rough, but it's a major accomplish that I was very happy with. Since then I wrote a number of other character articles (also read a good many characters from other WA users), and now i need to apply what I learned, circle around and rewrite this one to perfection. She is the main character in a few short stories I'm writing later in the year, so it's a bit important that I get this one finished.
Kingdom of Cassel completion
During the month of December, I wrote about a number of locations across the
Kingdoms of Cassel,
22 total, across
24,155 words. The entirety of the Elf-Kingdom of Lyonne was written about (though I don't actually have an article about that kingdom yet!), and about half of Verdina (North Cassel) is done. The other three kingdoms have barely been mentioned so far.
Overall, I now have 26 of the 151 planned locations and have written 29,869 words. that is an impressive amount of locations and stats, but I am only about 17% of the way done. I have a pretty large amount of work that needs to be done here still, but before I do that I need to go through the locations I already have and make sure they are all written properly and have the right amount of information, and also write full articles for Lyonne and Verdina.
State of Other Worlds
Cairn Sector Rewrites
Around October I briefly pulled away from Vreathe to start rewriting my sci fi world. I spent a week redoing all of the CSS for the world. I got four articles deep in the rewrite, and then it was the end of October and I needed to start preparing for World Ember. A large chunk of the year will be spent continuing the rewrite, so there won't be much actual new worldbuilding here for quite some time.
New World: The Crystal Age
I started a new world on the last day of WorldEmber. Until I work on it more, all it has are a few introduction articles. I kind of created it at the very end because I needed a quick 10,000 words (got around 13k instead!). This is meant to be a video game world for an RPG, so the worldbuilding will ultimately be limited and the whole thing will function like a design document for a game. I had some writing on this world in a notebook from many years ago, but I'm not sure what to do with it yet...
Resolutions
We're finally at the goals for 2024! I should have enough goals for me to be busy all year. I should also have enough goals for me to abandon because I ended up going in a completely different direction! This tends to happen a lot...
This is going to be split up into four sections. There will be one general section that applies everywhere, then there will be individual goals I want to accomplish for each of my worlds. The amount of writing I do in 2024 will be of a similar amount to what I did in 2023. It will just be spread throughout the year instead of being backloaded on Worldember (more on that at a later date). Most of my work for the year is going to involve refining what I already have instead of creating a whole lot of new stuff, but it has to be done. Iteration is as important to building something as anything else.
General Goals
Write 10,000 Words of Worldbuilding each month, amounting to 120,000 total words by the end of the year.
Read/like around 85 articles each month, 1000 by the end of the year. I don't understand all the people who simply put "read articles" as a resolution or goal. Put a number behind it!
Write 1 Short Story or Sketch out a plot each month for 12 total. I gotta start writing the story eventually!
There must be at least one short story in each of my worlds by the end of the year.
Every short story or plot thread set in Vreathe must involve my major characters in some way.
Working on the script for The Crystal Age game quests count as a short story in this case.
Vreathe Goals
(Inspired by Kefkejaco's articles): I have the The Church of Saint Nora already, now I need to go into how religion around the same gods and history is different in other parts of the world.
(Inspired by Blue Fairy 74's drawings): Make a design blueprint for an airship article this year.
Aethercite Catalogue and God-Blood Crystals: Split the 30 or so entries into individual articles and turn the main catalogue article into a quick reference page.
Rewrite and edit all 8 major character articles to a state of being finished.
Rewrite and edit the existing 26 Baronies of Cassel and get them to a state of being finished.
Work on the Kingdoms of Cassel map. Currently it's 4 excellent looking layers of 8000x5000 pixels with not a single map pin. I should at least get the pins for the Kingdom of Lyonne and Verdina added in as I have most location articles there complete.
I want to make art and write the articles for the following legendary weapons:
Aciam Fulgriff. (Saya's sword)(will probably be renamed to the Judgement Sword or something similar.)
Rose of Cassel. (Ren's sword)
Staff of Saint Nora. (Aerynn's staff)
Aros Cutter. (Isabel's sword)
The Fallen Star. (Arden's sword)
Make an article for each of the major races of Vreathe, or at least the most common people of Cassel:
Humans
Elves
Orcs
Lamia
Adventure April entry. It will be based on the Floating Gardens of Azura. I have the art assets already and an idea of the story, I just need to exercise my CSS wizardry to get the article made into a competent self-contained adventure. I have some things on the CSS side like this Treasure Chest, but not much else.
Cairn Sector Goals
(inspired by Kittymonster's articles): Rework and restart the Vevari Language to be an actual language. I'm no linguist or skilled conlanger, but I got this! Maybe... This is gonna start out in Google Sheets for a few months first before I do anything on World Anvil.
Fix the formatting on every single article. Some of them broke with my CSS overhaul late last year.
Reorganize the articles (nearly everthing is currently under "old" but many of those articles are still relevant and don't need much editing).
Write an individal article for every one of the Crew of the Void Chaser. I also need to rewrite all my existing character articles.
Rewrite and finish the city of Redsrei, one of the primary settings for the story.
Also finish the city map and area map around the city.
Edit the other primary setting, Starship Void Chaser, and make sure it's easy to read and understand.
Create individual articles for some of the more important technologies and systems of the ship.
Expand the Void Chaser - Mission Record to properly illustrate the ship's 200 year history.
Make a series of articles about Earth so I can properly set up the plot for this world's story.
Create an overview article for the Animal and Plant Kingdoms on Planet Collena
use Ekandra - Aquatic Lizards as a sort of blueprint for all the other major groups of animals. Make at least One Species article each month.
The following major groups of animals need to be edited or written:
Ekandra - Aquatic Lizards
Hadkira - Flying Lizards
Jinani - Birds
Keretse - Armored Cats
Chirodans - Feathered Wolves
Floating Jellyfish
Tree Corals
Neza - Land Squid
Agi - Fish
The Crystal Age Goals
Create location articles for each of the 12 floating archipelagos.
Create character articles for each of the Playable characters (Althea, Sethir, etc.)
Figure out the gameplay mechanics for this world (tactical, action, turn based, etc.)
Sketch out the Plot and start writing the script for the game.
Create the World Map.
Create the game area maps for each of the 12 floating archipelagos.
This has definitely inspired me to make my 2024 resolutions more detailed! It would definitely help with actually achieving them and staying accountable. Also, the amount of writing you've done this year is so impressive! Way to go!! I can't wait to read about the new world as well, considering my current one is being written for a game too. I've taken so much inspiration from your work! Happy new year, and I hope 2024 is filled with creativity, joy, and success for you :D
Thankyou, glad I could inspire someone! And Happy New Year!
