The Burn - Scholar Investigation
We have carefully ventured deep into the Burn, confirming what we could of the stories of old. We found no cause of the fire, but we did discover that it wasn't the last time this area burned. Even now, only a few older trees stand that survived fire damage. Younger trees all are at most six years old, suggesting the latest great fire was only that many years ago. Older trees suggest the area has burned every decade or so. Worse, the firebreak area shows traces that the fire has occasionally gotten past. Perhaps due to a heavy wind, or due to plantlife covering it then burning. This means that the fire is a threat for us as well, as it might reach our High Plain farms or cut us off from the advanced camps. We had best keep an eye out, so that if the valley burns again, we are ready to stop it.
