Arboreal

Also known as Treants, Arboreals were living, walking trees that would protect their woods from those aiming to destroy them. While normally they took their decisions very carefully, their meeting times measured in months, when provoked they would strike fast. Foolish was the woodcutter that would take down trees without replanting, soon finding themself bludgeoned to death or cut down by stone swords.   Unfortunately no more arboreals appear to exist. Empires grew hostile to these threats against their expansions, so they would send out entire armies at the first trace of arboreals. Sometimes, on account of strong arboreals being able to turn even normal trees against soldiers, they chose to simply burn down entire forests.

Subjugation
Their tree nature made arboreals resistant against bludgeoning and piercing weapons. On the other hand, fire and axes were a massive threat to them. Armies would generally use Cold Iron battle axes, so that they also had a weapon at hand against any wicked Fae.   Because of the risk of additional arboreals approaching from one's side, as well as trees awakening to fight, fights would always involve large forces. A ring of soldiers observing both ways would surround the main battlefield, ready to attack any reinforcements, while a small group would flank an opponent and cut then into pieces.
Nature
All arboreals cared about were their woods. Even when some would travel through open fields, it would be solely to investigate a possible threat. As such, as long as their own woods were safe, they cared not for anyone or anything. Any peaceful entry would be permitted, while even the worst massacre would not interest them.   This made them awkward but harmless neighbours. Some foresters would even negotiate with them, bartering a deal. Such deals were expected to last entire generations, as the arboreals had a long memory. There never was a need to wipe them out.
