Elemental

Primeval Power

"An elemental does not hate you. Fire is not angry. The river is not vindictive. The hurricane is not malicious. The danger lies in how little any of them care whether you survive."
— From The Four Great Lessons
Elementals are creatures formed from the raw forces that make up the world. They are living embodiments of elemental power, most commonly air, earth, fire, and water. Rather than being born in the way most creatures are, elementals are created from the substance and energy of their native elemental planes.   Each type of elemental reflects the nature of the element from which it is formed. Air elementals are swift and difficult to contain, moving like powerful winds and storms. Earth elementals are strong and enduring, with bodies of stone, crystal, or soil. Fire elementals burn with intense heat and destructive energy, while water elementals flow and adapt like rivers, waves, and oceans.   Elementals are often found on the Elemental Planes, where their respective elements exist in their purest forms. However, they can also appear on the Material Plane through powerful magic, natural portals, or unusual magical events. Spellcasters frequently summon elementals to serve as guardians, allies, or sources of power.   The intelligence and behavior of elementals vary widely. Some possess only a simple understanding of the world and act according to their elemental nature. Others are capable of speech, complex thought, and independent goals. Even intelligent elementals often view the world differently than mortal creatures because of their strong connection to their native element.   An elemental's personality is often shaped by its element. Fire elementals may be passionate and destructive. Water elementals can be calm one moment and violent the next. Air elementals are often restless and free spirited, while earth elementals tend to be patient, stubborn, and steady. These traits are not universal, but they are common among their kind.   The presence of an elemental can affect its surroundings. Fire elementals may ignite nearby objects, water elementals can flood areas, air elementals create powerful winds, and earth elementals may shake the ground or reshape stone. Their influence often reflects the natural power of the element they embody.   Common examples of elementals include air elementals, earth elementals, fire elementals, water elementals, and various elemental creatures from the Inner Planes. While their forms and abilities differ, all elementals share a direct connection to the fundamental forces that shape the world. They are living manifestations of nature's most basic and powerful energies.
