Tiefling
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Tiefling is an umbrella term describing planetouched humanoids, primarily humans, that possess a fiendish ancestry.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Tieflings more often than not are visibly distinct from regular humans. Depending on their ancestry, they may possess a tail, horns, or fur, or any combination thereof. Less striking yet still prominent deviations from the norm include sharpened teeth and an unusual eye color (with or without sclera). However, some tieflings are born looking like members of their race, with the distinctions becoming increasingly prominent throughout their lives; these features manifest either during puberty, or as they increase in power.
Tieflings' anatomy is generally similar to their non-fiendish ancestry, though there are some unique and significant differences:
- Tieflings lack a pancreas, liver, kidneys.
- Two small glands located where one would expect the kidneys, that fill a similar role but are not connected to the cirulatory system directly; these glands are also believed to enable a tiefling's innate magical abilities.
- An invereted heart, both horizontally and vertically; as such, when checking for a tiefling's pulse one should listen on the right side of the torso rather than the left.
- A tieflings toxin removal system (see below) is comprised of several fluid-filled sacks, connected by a network of intestine-like ducts.
Toxin Removal System
Devil descendant tieflings have seven nodes in a single cluster; marked in orange.
Mezzofiends and Rakshasa descendant tieflings have nine nodes in two clusters - surrounding cluster (5 nodes) and central cluster (4 nodes); marked in blue.
Demon descendant tieflings have thirteen nodes in three clusters - surrounding cluster (4 nodes), central cluster (4 nodes), and lower cluster (5 nodes); marked in black.
The nodes are located between the shoulders at their highest, and at the base of the tail at the lowest. In tieflings without tail, the lowest node is right above the cocyx.
