The Green Ocean

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
The Green Ocean, also known as the Asathalfinaren Forest, is a large dense forest within the Verdant Wilds located in an unusually deep basin; the forest gets its name due to all of the canopies having the same constant elevation of 15 meters above sea level.

Geography

Topographically speaking, the forest is very reminiscent of an ocean; the basin is believed to be as deep as 5 kilometers at its center. Approximately 85% of trees are over 3,000 ft. tall.

Ecosystem Cycles

Light from the sun or moons cannot reach beyond the photic zone, also known as the orgaladic zone; as such, most of the green ocean isn't subject to the usual day and night cycle. In the digaladic zone, bioluminescent vines glow for 24~ hours and are dark for 12~ hours, resulting in a 36 hour-day. Most, if not all, species are endemic and are well adapted to this elongated day.   The green ocean is also detached from the regular seasonal cycle of the prime material plane, and instead is subject to the whims of the Feywild.

Fauna, Flora, and Funga

The green ocean is home to several hundreds of unique species; the following are the most significant, best known, or otherwise noteworthy, divided by the zone they inhabit:

Orgaladic Zone

Nelfir
