Reproductive Variance of the Dragonkin
Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Oמ the Reproductive Variance of the Dragonkin, is a research paper done by Delsanra of Orthali about the various way of reproduction or 'spawning'' of Dragon and it also covers the creation of Half-Dragons;
Half-Dragon 'Births'
Traditional Reproductions
Dragons, especially in their more humanoid or polymorphed forms, are capable of mating with mortals and other species. Such unions often result in half-dragons or dragon-blooded offspring (e.g., sorcerers of draconic bloodlines). However, this accounts for only a minority of documented cases, especially in regions far from known dragon lairs or where the alleged parent has not been sighted.Regional Effect - Aethering Imprinting
Field Note: In a small village in the Keatian Cape, no fewer than eleven children were born within a single year bearing scales, horns, and breath affinities, despite no known draconic parent . A feral green dragon had roosted in the nearby wood the previous season. Despite not being able to approach the children, I had come to the conclusion that those are indeed half-dragonsA key discovery in the research, is the notion of localized imprinting, or better known as Aethgeric Imprinting, which means that dragons, have their auras and presence unintentionally (or rather, do intentionally) imbue neary creatures, particularly humanoids with latent draconic essence. This phenomenon may be linked to the ambient magical saturation caused by powerful dragons entering mating season or shedding scales and blood.
Ritual Conception and Spawn-Forging
In some dragon cults and sorcerous circles, ritual transformation is possible: through draconic pacts, one may offer offspring to a dragon for blessing or corruption. These children are then born with dragon-like traits, even in the absence of physical contact.Hoard Effects
A hoard of an older dragon is sometimes 'cursed' or more like, 'imbued', causing those who use it to have off spring touched by draconic essence, which most often results in Magical powers, but also causes people to have Half-Dragons.Dragon Births
Traditional Sexual Production
The most well-known method by which dragons reproduce is through sexual coupling between two dragons of compatible ancestry. This process is similar to that of most mortal creatures, though with vast differences in scale, ritual, and consequence.Spontaneous Formation in Regions
There are places that are affected by the aura of the dragon, such are known to bless water or poison them, or even cause Half-Dragons (Explored below). But the stranger effect, is that areas (such as veins of metal ore that are in the vicinity of metallic dragons, or arctic wastes for white dragons), are known to 'spontaneously' spawn a dragon egg. The Eggs are usually drawing other dragons or other creatures that unearth them (Even if that is a hapless miner).Magical Crafting
Certain riutals, as those documented in Menedynnian History, do in fact specify that there can be limited ways to create dragons. Such as Dracolisk. However, in recent ruins of the Old Ansko Empire, there were many methods to create also dragons. The effects are known to draw dragons to the area, as if consumed by rage or perhaps, famiiarity.Spontaneous Reincarnation
Though I haven't encountered such dragons that admitted that they are reincarnated. Some of them, espacially those that have had limited contact with their 'forebearers', have somewhat retained memory, such as us Elves. Though, I do not know if thats reincarnation or more like 'passed' on memoryWhen a dragon dies, its soul, especially if ancient and mighty, may fragment and eventually reconstitute itself elsewhere in the world, drawn to sites of draconic resonance (such as dragon graves, leyline nexuses, or storm-wracked peaks). These reincarnated wyrmlings often have vague memories of their past lives and a preternatural command of their former domain.
Draconic Transformation
Not considered a way to become a dragon, but more like enhancement - Known examples are Adamntine Dragon and Adamntine Dragonborn.Rejuvenation
When a dragon sees its end, whether by a deadly disease or something that cannot be cured, the dragon usually enters a long trance - sometimes decades - during which a mate or some other creatures protect it, until it forms into a chrysalis, which spawns many eggs.
