Marquesses in the Shadows

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
According to early Andorian teachings, the Marquesses in the Shadows is the name of a group of three powerful individuals who ruled over the humans of Lake Kadia prior to the Conquest of Ader by Agustin Andor. According to the church, the Marquesses, who were tyrants and heretics, were banished by Agustin to Black Ammand.

Historical Basis

The verity of the story is a highly debated topic amongst scholars and under harsh censorship by the Andorian Inquisition. In recent years an increasing number of reliable evidence was gathered, affirming that indeed there were two prominent Vintian players that were banished by Agustin. However, generally speaking, the Marquesses are believed to be an adaptation of an earlier myth.

Variations & Mutation

Over the years, a modified version of the tale propagated through a covert operation of the inquisition; according to it, the marquesses were killed off by Agustin.
An esoteric tradition alleges that there was a fourth marquess; a cult in Navara called itself Children of the Fourth Marquess.

The Marqueeses

The Crone

Rumored to had her tongue cut off as a punishment many years ago, The Crone is the only entity among the marquesses known to be female. A sadistic witch, she tortured, killed and most horridly, ate, anyone unfortunate enough to fall into her clutches. She was deranged long before her banishment, and the few foolish enough to attempt and reach out to her are either insane or about to be.   The Crone cannot speak, even telepathically, but understands almost all languages. She communicates with those who contact her with horrifying visions or by scarring them with a written message through magical means. Her written instructions are highly detailed.

The Deceiver

The Deceiver, also known as The Marquess, used to be an influential Vintian politician, that was known for vast schemes and spy networks. He was rumored to have consorted with dark and ancient powers, making him unnaturally charismatic. Said rumors are likely to be true, due to the fact that Agustin saw fit to banish him as well.

The Eternal

The Eternal was a powerful wizard turned lich, who was rumored to be over a millennia old when faced by Agustin. It is unknown how he has managed to stave off demilichdom. Deprived of feelings and sensations long ago, the mere idea of joy is antithetical to The Eternal's identity and whole being. He reaches most of his followers through their inability to enjoy anything, sending them in a downwards spiral of self loathing and hatred.
