Grandmother Yannenig

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Grandmother Yannenig, also known as Great Grandmother Yannenig, The Cobweb Crone, and Youthless Yannenig, is an ancient and powerful hag that serves the Dark Lord of Gontal. She's the de-facto governor of Jižokmeu.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

Though it is said that every hag is unique in her appearance, Grandmother Yannenig's appearance is singular. Her legs are malformed and underdeveloped; she has two rows of teeth, all of them incisors; and her empty eyesockets are covered by cobwebs.   In front of the Dark Lord, Yannenig appears as a beautiful young maiden with impeccable skin and a perfect figure. This appearance is a curse bestowed by the Dark Lord as punishment for her insolence.

Specialized Equipment

As her legs are unable to carry her, Yannenig uses a marionette control bar that holds her afloat as she moves.

Personal history

Not much is known about Grandmother Yannenig, and much of what is known is known through second-hand accounts, as she always tells a different story when asked. She is believed to be an exile from the Wych Lands of Hexadömonir, and is known for her disdain of the Lindir people, whom she describes as "delectable and nutritious".   In early 1013 AB, the trees of Babiznalesy began growing repidly, with new trees growing overnight. Throughout the year, the Primal Magic in the area became increasingly unstable. On midnight of the 30th of Lizizil 1014, four jagged cliffs suddenly erupted from the ground; these cliffs destroyed several monster lairs, and forced them out of hiding, and were then slain by the local populace whom they troubled. The locals swore fealty to Yannenig, who delivered Jižokmeu to the Dark Lord as she promised.

Speculations

Age

There are things older than you can imagine roaming the land, Ailéno. You would do well to respect them, even if they serve you.
Early Menedynn records refer to Yanennig as local folklore in Trollkona. The chronicles of the Coming of the Witches refer to her as one of the fiercest hags to fight the Menedynn; she is described as an authority figure among the wyches, which seemingly held great sway over their actions.   In the records of Aelindor, "Yannenig and her Coven" is refered to as allies of the High Elves, who helped them tame the wildest areas of Thalasindor.

Exile

Folklore in the Wychlands and the Lindar Tribes describes Yannenig as a sort of leader, refering to her by the unique honorific of Great Grandmother. She is attested to hold control over a group of thralls, whose description is very similar to that of Domsomnymmar, as far back as 800 BB.   Later tales, dating to the establishment of The Bafigron Empire, describe her haunting the forests inhabited by the Lindir and clashing with other hags and wyches, with increasing violence and intensity.
We wyches see things as they are - black or white. Yannenig see things as she pleases, and convened with the whites before turning to the black.
— Shrieking Shelia, Elder Wych of the Barren Grove
The reason for the conflict with the wyches is unknown, but there are two plausible causes for the conflict and her supposed exile. It is believed that Yannenig opposed the dualistic beliefs of the wyches, as she is known to uphold a neutral, self centered stance on morality and authority. It is also speculated that Yannenig formed, or tried to form, a coven with The White Witches, in essence betraying the hags of Hexadömonir.
