Doli-Quessiri

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
Doli-Quessiri is the name of the under-water Sea Elves of the Realm of Doliran.

Relations

While most Sea Elves are isolationist, the Doli-Quessiri, are known to make appearances and to exhibit their dominance over their territories. Like all Sea Elves, they harbor intense animosity towards sahuagin and sharks, often engaging them in combat on sight, driven by a desire for their complete eradication. Aquatic elven societies are vulnerable to infiltration by malenti, mutated sahuagin who closely resemble them.
Water Genasi and other Orphans
Doli-Quessiri occasionally raise water genasi children, although the genasi often feel a sense of pity for the elves' restricted environment and even Aasimars.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

Doli-Quessiri possess an even greater sense of self-importance than their kin. They view land-dwelling elves as constrained by their environment, asserting that they themselves have embraced a vibrant and infinitely diverse ecosystem.   The Doli-Quessiri, pride themselves over their sea cats as their guardians and pets if they are somewhat caught at young age.

Shared customary codes and values

Doli-Quessiri consider promises sacred, valuing their fulfillment above even their own lives. If a Doli-Quessiri dies fulfilling a vow, their kin assume the responsibility. Any suggestion of a Doli-Quessiri breaking their word is deeply insulting. However, promises from outsiders are viewed with skepticism, usually due to the shorter lifespans of other races and their differing views on honoring the commitments of the deceased.

Common Etiquette rules

Unlike most of the Sea-Elves, who see Private property as unnecessery. The Doli-Quessiri, do indeed possess the will to have belongings.

Art & Architecture

Ahead I saw a dome of warm, yellow-green light illuminating structures that were different from, but in every way as magnificent as, those ancient elven buildings that you might expect to find on the mainland. These buildings seemed grown in the same manner as traditional elven ones, except that they were made of water-sculpted rock, seaweed, shells, or glittering mother-ofpearl. They soared in harmonious curves and spirals, like the back of a dolphin or the shell of a nautilus. The yellow-green light seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at the same time, illuminating the wondrous city and its water-filled streets with a light nearly as bright as day.
Jarlin Kilford describing his voyage to the underground cities of the Sea Elves
Sculpture is the dominant art form among the Doli-Quessiri. Elaborate carved reliefs adorn the walls of their cities, and statues are commonplace.   Music also plays a significant role in their culture. Their resonant voices project further underwater than on land, producing thrumming songs reminiscent of whalesong and are also akin somewhat and more beutiful than those of the dolphin vocalizations - This music is often long and evocative of the ocean's tranquil rhythm. Therefore, Bards are a common presence in their society.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Immediately after birth, aquatic elven infants are brought to a designated location along a known whale migration route. Here, within the safety of a specially constructed coral enclosure, the newborn is exposed to the powerful, resonant songs of the passing whales. This Song of Welcome is believed to imprint the child with a deep connection to the ocean and the wisdom of these ancient creatures. The vibrations of the song are felt through the water, a physical and spiritual baptism into the aquatic world. This ritual ensures the child is recognized and accepted by the whales, who hold a revered place in aquatic elven culture.

Coming of Age Rites

As a rite of passage into adulthood, Doli-Quessiri undergo rigorous training in the art of weaponry. This training culminates in two key demonstrations of skill and resourcefulness. First, they must safely harvest the potent venom of sea urchins. This venom is then ritually applied to their chosen weapon, signifying their readiness for combat.
Second, they are tasked with crafting a weapon and often a piece of armor from hardened shell, coral, or flawed pearl.

Ideals

Relationship Ideals

Doli-Quessiri society is structured around family and clan units. While noble families and monarchs hold positions of leadership, their rule is generally benevolent and decentralized. Their "nobility" is fluid; any clan to which another has sworn fealty is considered noble. Although women can attain positions of power, the society is predominantly patriarchal, with inheritance typically passing through the eldest son.
