Trollkin

Trolls are fearsome predatory humanoids originally from Otherworld bearing monstrous features, strength, and resilience. They hunger for the flesh, blood, and bones of other living creatures. Luckily, trollkin are not these creatures. Through birth, transformation or some strange twist of fate, these individuals possess a fraction of the power and drive found in their Otherworld brethren but are still among the most powerful of the Otherkin.   Trollish features include pointed ears, pointed jaws and noses. Quite often they also have hunched backs or oversized appendages as their trollish blood rages through their bodies. These features are known as Strains. They are a manifestation of the troll within and are simultaneously the most powerful and painful part of the troll’s body. A trollkin’s strain may be stable or change over time. Some trollkin who have small or limited strains may seem almost to be kin but for the stain of their sire on their skin which may also come in blotches, but as they get older and endure the trials of life or simply invoke their trollish resilience, their strains and stains become more prominent, growing, or changing. Within the Formorian Fae, strains are badges of honor and manifestations of power. Among the Sidhe Fae, strains are terrifying marks of ancient feuds and unbridled chaos. Each individual trollkin view their strains differently, from hard won war wounds, to embarrassing scars, or strange deformities.   Trollkin are often shunned by others for their appearance and typically spend time in the wilds of the urth, preferring the terrains of their ancestors to the prejudices of civilization. Others do their best to become a part of those same communities, working hard to become accepted.   Many trollkin develop a taste for a particular creature which they use to fuel their ‘ache’ which is what they call their preternatural hunger. The only thing that dulls the pain of the strains is to ‘feed the ache.’ While any freshly dead creature may do, legends tell of a ‘ravin’ or blood feast that trollkin believe will permanently quell their ‘ache.’ This is yet another obstacle that trollkin must overcome when living with others and is one of the reasons full Fae Trolls are so feared.   The one thing that all trollkin dread is their ‘yoke,’ the force that their Trollish Defiance cannot overcome. It is known as the yoke because trollkin see it as the one thing that holds them back, pulls them from true greatness and immortality. Trollkin seek any item, skill or power that can help them overcome their yoke, hoarding them like a dragon.   Rumors of trollkin living as long as the nearly timeless elves persist in many areas. However, it is also known that some trollkin are finally overtaken by their strains, changing them in ways their body or spirit can no longer handle or outright changed into something that must leave the Urth and return to Otherworld.
