Vocivicite crystals, growing near rifts on the material plane, can and have been known to be used as a spellcasting implement. It acts similarly to a crystal implement, but because of the planar magic imbued within it, it is a lot less consistent, though a bit more powerful. Where most crystal implements allow their user to change the type of arcane energy from their spell to the one tied to the crystal, vocivicite does not allow for the harnessing of one energy type. As such, spells cast using a vocivicite crystal as an implement will be morphed in a near-completely random way. Though this is seen as a drawback to most, spellcasters using vocivicite crystal implements rely on this randomness to surprise their opponents and gain the upper hand. Once one is used to their spells being changed, there is an additional advantage that comes with using a vocivicite implement. The planar energy within the crystal is known to strengthen spells, meaning that a spellcaster can expend less energy to cast more powerful spells.

Vocivicite Binding

A side effect of arcane magic passing through the planar energy contained within vocivicite is that its constant use has a tendency to give a sort of pseudo-sentience to the crystal. When this happens, the implement becomes "bound" to the spellcaster whose magic awakened it. Other spellcasters become incapable of using the implement, as it will only channel magic that it recognises - the magic that caused it to awaken. Because of this quality, bound vocivicite implements can be used to create constructs that are already bound to their creator, which is useful in certain professions.
