Of course, it's a silly notion, that life could exist up there. But every once in a while, when you see the glimmer of Myhe Alari in the corner of your eye, you can't help but wonder - what if there was? It's a fantastical idea, I think, which is why it's so popular.
Vechian professor, on the rumours of lunar folk
The primary moon of the planet, orbited by the smaller Myhe Ennore, Myhe Alari is mostly barren on its surface, though underground lies an expanse of lush foliage, unique wildlife, and small communities of the moon's native populace of alarians.

Geography

The surface of Myhe Alari is covered in dust and rock, with many mountains and craters dotting its surface. This surface is a dull blue-grey colour, composed primarily of a material known as ahelite. Myhe Alari's surface is barren and uninhabitable, due to the thin atmosphere and direct exposure to the sun's radiation. Underneath the surface are expansive cave systems that harbour life, the rocky ceilings and limited airflow protecting its inhabitants from these issues. There are two major interconnected systems, each of which are entirely disconnected from one another: Thassalys, known for its large caverns and open areas, and Eyrelath, known for its twisting tunnels and cramped passageways connecting the larger areas.

Ecosystem

The two regions of subterranean Myhe Alari have largely separate ecosystems, as travelling between them requires ascending to the surface, a dangerous ordeal.

Thassalys

Thassalys's large and expansive caverns allow for wildlife of greater sizes, the deer-like kethua being one such creature. The apex predators of Thassalys, aside from alarians themselves, are seuavhe, an intelligent species of canines with a pair of curved horns atop their heads. The flora of these caverns are lush and bright blue-green in colour, with foliage covering the majority of the walls and floors. The alarians of Thassalys are tall and broad, with hair in shades of black and brown.

Eyrelath

Known for its smaller mammals and wide variety of critters, most of the fauna of Eyrelath is small and manoeuvrable. Larger creatures tend to require less energy and develop many modes of protection, to offset the fact that they are forced to reside in one area for their entire lifetime. Alarians that live in Eyrelath are slightly shorter and slimmer on average, though still large compared to much of the wildlife. Their hair comes in lighter shades of blue, purple, pink, and white.

Climate

The climate of above-ground Myhe Alari is largely static, with the occasional gusts of wind or rarer dust storms. Below ground, the only major weather phenomena are cave-ins or other shifts in the environment.

The Moongates

Dotted across the subterranean landscape of Myhe Alari are five ancient portals known as Moongates. Found in ruins of ancient great cities, two of which have been built around and made into modern-day urban areas, these gates are of mysterious origin but are the sole method of travel between Myhe Alari and the planet of Dulūn. They are located in areas of concentrated natural magic, and appear to draw upon the Ethereal Plane for their connection - something highly uncommon for teleportation magic. Because of this source of power, entering a Moongate unprepared can result in a premature departure to the afterlife.

Nations of Thassalys

Tehcktan

Tehcktan is the largest organised nation of Thassalys, ruled by a matriarchal royal family rumoured to be a bloodline dating back to the first alarian mages. The nation prizes magic, especially as a tool used in tracking, hunting, and survival. Its capital of Hanatt is located at the only intersection between the two sub-sections of Thassalys, making it a key point in trade and communication between other nations.

Yveli

Yveli is a smaller theocracy whose populace maintains a focus on research of the aboveground plains, consistently developing methods of surviving the wastes for longer and longer. In addition to their population centres below ground, they have established moondomes on the surface of Myhe Alari that are capable of supporting life for extended periods of time.

Veleythe

Veleythe is a collection of smaller cities with constant in-fighting, though are able to put up a united front when faced with a common enemy. They prize not only strength in hunting but also prowess in combat, with disagreements often being settled via ritual combat and duels.

Fosthawn

Fosthawn is a tiny isolationist nation comprising about three tribes, each of whom have their own systems of leadership. Their contact with other larger nations is minimal, though they are known to accept (assimilate) smaller nearby tribes into their own.

Nations of Eyrelath

Mihrenna

Mihrenna is a theological state that lives in the caverns of Eyrelath nearest to Myhe Alari's surface. They worship Syrenna, goddess of the stars and the sky, and believe themselves to be her children. Those blessed by Mihrennan clerics can walk upon the surface without protection.

Tollys

Tollys are a nation whose focus is primarily scientific progress, a goal which puts them in opposition to the idealists of Mihrenna. Many Tollysians are androids or cyborgs, animated though advanced arcane and technical discoveries.

Ahldra

Ahldra is a small nation that sits between Mihrenna and Tollys, and is perhaps the only reason its two neighbours are not already at war. Despite being fiercely pacifist, Ahldra possesses a formidable defensive army, dissuading attempts to attack or invade the small country.

Teaanel

A large cult disguised as a small nation, the citizens of Teaanel worship the Greater Demon Teaanor, or risk being sacrificed. Members of this nation regularly forfeit their memories to feed their demon, and in return, receive profane powers and a demonic appearance. It is for this reason that Teaanens are feared by most other alarians.

Savrel

The largest of Eyrelath's nations, Savrel is ruled by a council of elder mages, whose capital is built upon a rift to the astral plane, enhancing any and all magic cast within a wide radius of the rift and causing a number of natural magical occurrences within the city, such as the quickened or slowed passage of time, or detached floating rock formations and buildings.

I really like the idea of the moon having separate subterranean ecosystems. That's fun. I hope you explore them more! :)
