Mama Zaba's Secret Recipes

"Come now, little bird, it's time for you to learn a different kind of magic," Mama Zaba said with her crooked smile. "Go clean your crystals and meet me in kitchens. Hup-to!"   The little bird in question scrunched up her nose at the word kitchen, but gathered up her crystals nonetheless. "Cooking ain't magic, Mama Zaba, not like these."   "If that's what you think, little bird, then I've much to teach you. Hup-to, hup-to! We've got a feast to prepare before our boys come home!"   Yellow-green eyes lit up with excitement, despite the dour outlook she had on something so plain as preparing a meal. "Nuncle Seth is coming home?"   Mama Zaba nodded her head and gave her another crooked smile before answering. "Aye, that boy of mine is finally coming back and you know how much he likes his honeyed boar, so hup-to, before I tell 'em you've been badder than grunkin!"   The little girl's eyes opened wide and then squinted sharply, her chest puffing up and bottom lip jutting out. "I have not!"   "Aye, but who'll he believe, when I'm the one with the honeyed boar and you're all dirtied with crystal shavings?" She cackled softly, almost witch-like and made her way into the manse via the back door. "Hup-to lil' bird, we've a boar to roast, vegetables to prepare, and potatoes to lather!"

Their line is diverse and multicultural and the family recipes that have been passed down reflect such. To the traditional yamicha stew at Mid-Summer, the exotic ugoerli pasta dish from Geisa, to baked seafish bowls, the Zabala's have a dish for everyone.
