Vacana

Vacana is believed to be the first language created by the gods. When the first born were created they did not speak and fell into their animalistic nature. This did not fit the image of what the gods believed the first born were meant to be. So they spoke to the first born and gave them the ability to speak. These words would continue to be spoken until the mortal races were created. When the Proto began to walk the earth the gods allowed the remaining first born to teach them to speak. The Proto would go on to teach the Loka & the Aru. Having the Proto teach the other races was meant to be a test to see if the mortal races could work together in peace. This peace would last for thousands of years. Eventually as the gods faded the Proto would become envious of the Loka & the Aru as they watched them continue to live on as they passed away. When the tribes of the mortal races began to come together, they set about to form a new language as they began to write down their history. This change would finally break the unseen peace that had lasted for over ten thousand years. As Proto nations began to form, Vacana would eventually be replaced by the common language known simply as Proto.

Written Language

Vacana originally did not have a written form as it was not originally needed. All forms of communication were performed in person. Many years after the mortal races were taught to speak, did a rough form of written language begin to form. The Loka, with the help of the Paraves, created a form of script that was written using a segmented writing system. It was written using symbols directionally from bottom to top.

Regional Dialects

Old Speak

Old Speak often refers to the language in its original form. Old Speak is the variation of Vacana that was originally spoken by the Gods and the First Born. Over time the language has changed as the mortal tribes have spread among the world

Northern Speak

In the northern reaches of Norland and Mros, the language here has evolved with the people and is often described as a harsher variation of the language. Southerners have often described the northerners' simple grunting when in agreement.

New Speak

South of the Andalashin Mountains emerged the youngest of the dialects of Vacana. Simply referred to as New Speak, the dialect was quickly adapted by the proto and soon became a common language throughout the world. The spread of the language was largely credited to the Visam Trading Company as they traveled between the many lands to trade.

Dark Speak

Second to Old Speak, Dark Speak has been spoken by the Org-Var and the other creations of Reknis since before the Devastation. Scholars have not been able to translate much of the language as most nations find themselves at war with the Org-Var. The Org-Var within the Vari Alliance have refused to help translate the language.
