Grimmont

Once just a small mining outpost, the township of Grimmont has grown exponentially over recent years. The demand for raw materials, metals and gemstones is always on the rise and so the miners find themselves delving ever deeping into the Isle.

Grimmont is one of the oldest still standing settlements on Leycia. It owes its longevity to its resource abundant mines that have been delving into the Bragi Mountains for many years.

The township survives off of the mines exports and in fact their probably would be no settlement at all if it wasn't for the Dwarven clan that discovered the resource rich valleys. So as it stands the townships ruling body consists of the highest ranking or regarded members of the current Dwarven clans that call Grimmont home.
Defences banner
Being situated at the base of the Bragi mountains Grimmont makes the most of the natural surroundings for its defences. Using cliff faces for walls and old mine caverns for homes and places of commerce allows the township to enjoy relative safety from outside threats. However on some occasions creatures have been known to climb out of the depths of Leycia and so the Dwarven clans keep a strong and regimented city guard.

The settlements very reason for existence is owed to its industry and its people are proud of that fact. Grimmont is known to produce the highest quality raw materials on the Isle with its extensive mines pulling up a wide variety of different ores, metals and even on occasion gemstones.

The people of Grimmont also pride themselves on their mining techniques and technologies, always working on new ways to get ores to the surface. Because of this the township has a wide variety of lifts, arcane carts and even a teleportation circle. It makes visiting the small city a little confusing to begin with and first timers oftentimes find themselves lost just trying to get to a general store... but after a day or two most people can navigate the streets, tunnels and lifts without to much hassle.
Guilds & Factions banner
The most notable factions within Grimmont would be the clans that operate the many mines beneath the city. The Brickbrow are one of the oldest and most well established clans, proud of their heritage they seek to only employ Dwarven kind in their ranks. The Flintmace are the largest of the clans, more of a guild they seek to employ anyone looking for work to delve down into the mines. The Coalgrog are probably the most infamous of the clans with many of the family members being known for their hot heads and short tempers. The Blackpike, the smallest but one of the most influential clans within the city. The head of the clan is incredibly wealthy and his word holds much weight when it comes to decisions that affect the city. The Mountainmaul are a relatively younger clan but they have had a lot of luck in recent years finding solid veins of valuable ores.

Much of the cityscape is actually underground and so to first time visitors the settlement can see a bit barron from the outset. But take a lift down and you'll soon be greeted by the sight of many underground dwellings cut or built from stone. These underground caverns usually have buildings either side with a roadway down the center, the roadway often leads to tunnels which connect to the next open cavern. This cavern system can seem confusing at first but the clans of the city have worked hard in recent years to organize navigation and ensure excellent infrastructure.   The caverns and roadways are lined with lanterns on decorative poles with most containing a flickering enchanted flame. However in the upper class district of the town many of these lanterns contain beautiful arcane gemstones that provide a much cleaner lightsource. They're also simply used to show off the wealth of the mines to any visiting dignitaries or people of particular importance.
Geography banner
Grimmont is located near the very southern tip of the Bragi Mountains, nestled deep into the valleys. The only real access is by road and most travel across the hills from Avonfar to visit the city to barter for materials and resources in trade.

The mines are vast and many different types of ores have been known to appear in the cities depths.
  • Prometheum Ore, a weak copper like ore used in some alloys
  • Iron Ore, the workhorse of the world
  • Oureclase Ore, a silvery-white hard but malleable material
  • Deep Iron Ore, most used for tool making due to its extra durability and toughness
  • Aridrite Ore, recent advances in heating technology have allowed the smelting of Aridrite into Aridium, a lighter equivalent to black steel
  • Carmot Ore, not quite as strong as mithril but more common and widely used as ornamental armor because of its neutral colour
  • Mithril Ore, a lightweight, very strong, silvery metal that is highly sought after for various uses
  • Orichalcum Ore, a green ceramic like metal, slightly stronger than mithril but harder to work
  • Adamantine Ore, a rare metal renown for its strength, often cited as being unbreakable
  • Atlarus Ore, a scarce metal that has properties that make it highly sought after for enchantment
Along with the ores comes many different gemstones in varying amounts, some infused and some not. And lastly the mines pull up varying amounts of bronze, silver, gold, platinum and electrum used as straight currency.
