Encrors in Francalia

Introduction

The Encrors are an ancient humanoid race who have been living for millennia in Francalia.
They were brought to the continent well before humankind.

However, because of their low reproduction rate and their tendency to favor isolation, the Encrors did not spread out of their original valleys and mountain homes in Francalia.

They live in a country called Tyrane in The Ormonts Mountains .
It is a realm of high mountains, magical valleys, and open-air caves.

The Encrors are excellent magic wielders and warriors, made from the same mold as the now-extinct The Bardes in Francalia  .
Their magi are powerful and can wield fearful magic.

This has proved a key factor in making sure humankind did not settle in their territories.
They possess Rods of Power  of their own, and might still know the secrets of their making.

Anatomy and Morphology

It is obvious to human archeologues that the Encrors and the Bards were related species.
Like the Bardes, the Encrors are blue-skinned, but instead of pale blue, their skin can vary from the palest duck-egg to ultramarine shades.

However, it is often difficult to notice an Encrors' color of skin as their bodies are usually covered all over with runes and tattoos.

Most tattoos are decorative, however, the runes are part of a magic wielder's trade.
Skin art was also part of the Bardes' traditions, and many humans tribes adopted the practice over time.

To this day, tattoos are also part of the human Francalians' culture.
However, humans do not sport in general whole-body tattoos like the Encrors

Encrors are well a foot taller than humans in general: there are no huge differences in men and women's morphologies, which has led to less of a division in male and female roles in society.

Both males and females are encouraged to strive to fulfill their Purpose according to their abilities and strength of mind.

Their hair colour is usually white, but they can also have red and blond hair.

It is very unusual for an Encror to sport darker shades of hair. Encrors like to wear their hair long and spend a lot of their community time doing each other's hair in very elaborate fashion.

They also like to add jewelry to their hair and ears, these can have become status symbols in Enrcor society.
An Encror's eye color is black. There is no variation on this as black is a dominant gene.
However, maybe because of some Bardes' genes still existing within the population, some Encrors will sport a lighter color of eyes in a blue or purple shade

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Encrors are usually faster and more agile than humans.
Centuries of mountain living have developed these traits as well as an uncommon tolerance to cold.

Their eyesight and hearing might not be as good as those of human beings.
Humans can see further and clearer than an Encror.

However, Encrors will see better in the dark.

As with the Bardes (and a certain percentage of the Francalian humans), genes will decide if you are a gifted magic wielder or not.
If you have the 'magic' gene, you will be able to have enhanced perceptions of your surroundings which will allow you to control certain elements at the molecular level.

It is estimated that 50 percent of the Encrors' population can wield some kind of magic.
Only 5 percent of the population is powerful enough to become a magus in time

Life Cycle

An Encror will have the same lifespan as a human being - from 80 to 100 years old.
During that time, a female Encror will give birth from one to three offsprings no more.

Encrors' fertility has always been problematic. It seems that the men and women who do not have the magic gene are more likely to produce children than the magic wielders.

Encrors' women choose their partner, not the other way around - if a partnership does not produce children, often a woman will pick another partner and try again.

Encrors will go to great lengths to protect their children, and they are very attached to them, so much so that they are often very spoiled until they reach teenagehood.

Women, fathers, and children live in big extended families, with men often switching to different families to move in with their new partner.

At the age of 15, children become teenagers and will start training to become adults.
They will have to complete a series of feats to become adults.

Once they have completed all the feats which will set them on their way towards fulfilling their chosen Purpose, they will be considered an adult and will be able to form a family and have children.

For some youngsters, it will only take a year or so, for others, it might take them up to 8 years or more.
Once a man or a woman has finished fulfilling their life purpose, they are considered an Elder and will enter old age.
Elders are very much respected in Encrors' society, and they are not expected to contribute to everyday physical work (unless they want to).

As an Elder, an Encror's responsibility will shift to the running of the clan as well as the spiritual leading of youngsters and other adults trying to fulfill their life goals (Purpose).
