Elves

Written by White Rook

He asked me if I had ever had an elf as a friend, and I told him about the time Farlis saved Kiamde in the oldroads. He didn't believe that an elf would sacrifice his life for an orc, but he was young and did not understand how every other race owes the elves for everything.   ---1st of Lead, Year 54

Civilization and Culture

History

The Elves are the ruling class in the city, brought to the city by the Elder Dragon Shashada to keep the city functioning and the rune in the Great Forge intact. They are split into two subraces: Quen and Grey.   Quen Elves- The ex-immortals and the de facto rulers of the city with the most members on the Forge Council than any other race. They are tall, thin, with white hair and golden eyes. Also serve as the police force, the lawyers, and judges of the city. Also the only race permitted into the Quenmithal (literally means “Guardians of Truth” in common tongue), the agents of Shashada and the most elite military force in the city. Unfortunately, due to the rigorous training, and sometimes fatal sorting process they are also the fewest in number. Not to mention the years of study it takes to be able to recognize, and defend against every known force of magic in the city. Both legal, and illegal. Most Quen Elves worship Shashada as a divine being at the head of a religion called The Basiloph Creed, of which only Elves may serve as its Dragon Priests. A few Quen Elves were corrupted in the release of Death, turning away from the Pillar of Order and embracing Chaos, Death, Demonology, and others. They are called the Cobolics, and are hunted ruthlessly by the Quenmithal as heretics and traitors to be killed on sight as any form of Illichen Magic is strictly forbidden in the city. These disgraced Quen Elves are forced into the Undercity where they live wretched lives of crime.   Grey Elves- Those born after the release of Death. They are shorter than Quen elves, and have darker hair and skin. Some are nearly black. Most are members of the Creed, with many reaching very high positions of power within it. They still value Order and law above all else, but many also choose to not take part in the organized religion and live quiet lives as shopkeepers or tavern owners. Grey Elves also make up a majority of the Custos, the special police force of the city tasked with rooting out any plot that could seriously endanger the city or the Forge and the rune within. Many also join the ranks of the Cobolics and live a life of crime in the Undercity, devoted to destroying the order imposed on the city by their fellow Elves.
