Dark Crystal
Dark Crystals are crystalline materials only found in the cold depths of the Kuiper Belt. The crystals were first discovered 50 years ago (2122) when a great Dark Asteroid fell into the Earth' Atmosphere and broke into multiple shards of deep purple meteorites.
Research
Scientists have discovered many properties in these crystals. At first, they thought these crystals were magnetic, however, it is argued amongst the scientific communities that the crystals aren't metallic. This magnetic-like property would attract more than just metal, contrary to what an ordinary magnet would. In fact, this attraction was bi-directional, meaning not only would this crystal move towards objects but other objects would be attracted to the crystal as well. It turns out the magnetic-like properties would occur when the Crystals were either heated, electrified or when some other form of energy would transfer to the material. There have been countless of research and discoveries that suggests this magnetic power is in fact Gravity. Doctor Bård Øyvind Lie, one of the leading physicists on Dark Crystals of the time, conducted many experiments on charging the crystals with electrical energy. It was Doctor Lie who began to coin the idea that the crystal manipulated gravity. This has been accepted by most, though this is of course argued by many Scientists of the Dark Crystal field. He had discovered that depending on the electrical charge the crystals Gravitational power can be controlled. A combination current & power would manipluate the crystal's gravitational force. The current, or 'flow', would determine the direction of the gravitaional force that the crystals emit. The power, or wattage, effects the radius of this 'artificial' gravity effect.Dangers
Dark Crystals are very volatile. Too much energy and the crystals can explode. Also when the crystals emit their gravitational energy, the crystals can also be radioactive. Therefore the crystals need to be encased in a Lead chamber.
Another glaring, and rather an obvious issue is the manipulation of gravity the crystals can achieve. The Saharan Climatology Research Complex, an International Research Facility, was repurpose soon after the Dark Crystal Meteor Shower. However, in 2124, the complex was tragically destroyed after an accident that crushed the complex and a 4-mile radius around it into a ball.
When this had happened, all nations at the time agreed to halt all experiments on Dark Crystals until the inquiries into this distaster was complete. It had taken the IDRA (International Disaster Response Agency) roughly 3 years to conclude that the incident was indeed caused by conducting experiments on Dark Crystals.
The only explanation for the reasoning of this is the IDRA is the Dark Crystals kinetic manipulating properties. This prompted all nations to agree to only conduct Dark Crystal studies in space.
Saharan RC Crushed!
In the early hours of the afternoon, the Saharan Climatology Research Complex was crushed into a ball. So far it is understood that there are roughly 333 fatalities and 736 injuries, however the total of casualties is expected to rise as the International Disaster Response Agency has finished with their rescue mission. How this happened is still a mystery and investigations are already being made. However, many claim this was an accident involving Dark Crystals. It was report weeks ago that the research facility started to refit the complex to study into the mysterious Dark Crystals that had fallen from your skies 2 years ago. ... Upon this disaster a new discovery, or uncovery, was made as - it appears - the disaster revealed an ancient ruin beneath the sands of the Sahara. However, this discovery perhaps has a bittersweet taste to swallow for the families of those who are lost to this devestating incident.
Kuiper Belt
When the Dark Comet crashed into Earth, many astrophysicists (and the whole world) at the time were also trying to discover where this asteroid has come from. It was not too long, when rumours began to spread as the Neptune Orbital Lab was suspected by the public of conducting secret surveillance research. However, the Mars Union denies anything of the sort. It was soon discovered in 2199 that the Kuiper Belt holds many more of these Dark Asteroids. Almost all of the telescopic instruments orbiting in the Solar System could not detect these astronomical objects. It was not until Doctor Lie managed to discover that these asteroids could be found using the Tysonscope when its orbit was within the umbra of the Moon and inverting the input. This then created a whole new lens to see the cosmos through, as other anomilies were found in this new way of looking into the universe. Since the discovery of the deposits of Dark Crystals, organisations of both the public and private sectors of both Planetary Nations began to construct and mine for this gravity manipulating item.Usage
Gravity Generators
In 2206, Gravitech created the Gravitech-One; humanity's first gravity generator. This invention revolutionised space travel and even space living. Rather than creating artificial gravity through rotation or acceleration, it is now possible to create better quality, and more natural, gravity on all Spacecraft. In 2256, the NEA mandated that every Spacecraft; ship and station, must be fitted with some kind of gravity generator. Therefore 2265 was when the last non-gravity generator ship was upgraded to the current generation of ship.Space Travel
In 2271, Gravitech announced the construction of humanity's first pair Gravity Gates. This cutting edge technology is amongst humanities attempt at Faster than Light travel. If successful, it is expected that humans can travel not only between planets in a matter of hours, but we could travel between starts in a matter of days.
