House Stane of Driftwood Hall is a noble house from Driftwood Hall on the isle of Skagos in the north. Their arms are a driftwood tree, bare and brown, on pale green.
Culture
Traits
The Skagosi are an isolated people descended from the First Men. Because of their huge size and foul smell, some maesters believe the hairy Skagosi have a strong admixture of Ibbenese blood, whereas others suggest they may be partially descended from giants.
Customs
It is said that the Skagosi consume the flesh of their enemies, mate by fighting, offer human sacrifice to the weirwoods and lure ships to their doom on the cliffs of Skagos.

History
Origins
According to The Edge of the World by Maester Balder, a war fleet from Skagos sailed to the nearby island Skane, seizing all the women, killing all the men, and feasting on their flesh for a fortnight. The smaller isle has reportedly been uninhabited since the Feast of Skane. Some attribute the destruction of Hardhome to cannibals from Skagos.
In response to Skagosi raids on the mainland, Brandon IX Stark, King in the North, broke their power, destroying the Skagosi ships and forbidding them the sea.
According to legend, Bael the Bard entered Winterfell under the guise of a singer named Sygerrik of Skagos; sygerrik means "deceiver" in the Old Tongue.
Some Skagosi have served in the Night's Watch over the past millennia. A Crowl was Lord Commander over a thousand years ago, and, according to the Annals of the Black Centaur, a Stane served as First Ranger for a brief time.
Aegon's Conquest
House Stane of Skagos was not present for the coming of the Dragon, and has refused all summons to the mainland since.

Seat and Holdings
The maps held by both the Citadel and Winterfell mark three different locations for Driftwood hall, which has lead some to speculate that, not unlike house Reeds floating castle, Driftwood hall changes location. All three locations are on the shores of Skagos which are little more than ice on stone. Many say it is what might have been if the Iron Islands had been raised by the Drowned God in the North.
There is a Maesters sketch of Driftwood hall and it is a large and grotesque thing made of wickedly twisted timber resembling more of an overgrown birds nest than a noble hall.
