History
Origins
The Lyddens were Andal adventurers who settled in the westerlands. Ser Joffrey Lydden married into House Lannister and became the first Andal King of the Rock, ruling as King Joffrey Lannister.
The Lyddens have served house Lannister faithfully for ages, fighting along their side against Riverkings, defending the main pass from the Riverlands into the Westerlands, as well as sending men to fight the Ironborn on the coast and on the Islands themselves.
Aegon's Conquest
The Lyddens were among those who traveled with Aegon to the Iron Islands and helped to defend him and his retainer from the attempted assassination. They were critics of granting the Iron Islands to house Tully, thinking house Lannister was more fit to rule the Islands, and more deserving considering the history between the Islands and the West.
Targaryen Dynasty
House Lydden has suffered some during Targaryen rule, as supporters of the Poor Fellows and Warrior's Sons, they acted in defiance of the crown and upon ignoring a summons to answer for the aid it was said they gave the Faith Militant, Balerion the Black Dread, during the Night of Bright Candles, descended upon Deep Den and burned the exterior of the castle. Thankfully the robust construction of digging holes into a hillside saved them, however the fine visage of their ancestral home was ruined and the terror was something they did not expect.

Seat and Holdings
The Deep Den is located in hilly and mountainous terrain east of Lannisport, with Hornvale to the north and Silverhill to the south. The Goldroad passes nearby. The entrance to Depe Den almost looks like a tower set against a hillside at first, tall and slender with windows and arrow slits, however upon closer inspection its obvious that the entrance has been in part built and in part cut against the face of the rock.
The interior of Deep Den itself is the remnants of a mining operation from long ago and the interor has been carved out from the multiple veins into larger passages and caverns. Some say Deep Den reaches all the way to Hornvale, others say the passages are just so long it seems like they might end up in Hornvale if followed.
