Locke of Oldcastle

House Locke of Oldcastle is a noble house from Oldcastle in the north. They have long served house Manderly and currently enjoy high standing in the court of White Harbor.   Their banner is two bronze keys crossed on a white pale on purple. Their words are "We hold the key."

Culture

Traits

Though they have a long history in the North, these days the Lockes have as much Andal blood as blood of the First Men having mixed their line with Manderly's, Valesmen, and even common Merchants who have come from other parts of Westeros, and Braavos.   Lockes tend to have hair that ranges from sandy blond to dark brown, eyes of greens, hazel and occasionally blue or gray depending on the Mothers house.

The Lockes have experience with many things, but ultimately their customs descend from their history as stewards or in other service to more powerful houses leaving their broader customs shifting from generation to generation, often to follow the whims of house Manderly, or to adapt to another house they may serve if house Manderly has no desire to make use of them.

Family Tree

History

Origins

Like many the Lockes once ruled as Kings but have for many ages served others who proved more capable. Since the coming of house Manderly to the North house Locke has served as a vassal to the Merman ruling the point that watches over the bay of White Harbor.

Targaryen Dynasty

Locke maintains a strong fleet that serves to help house Manderly guard White Harbor, a fleet that was used to great effect during the Sisterman rebellion during Aegon's conquest. Beside the Sistermen house Locke fights, and loathes pirates of all kinds.

Seat and Holdings

Oldcastle is one of many keeps built long before records were kept, like parts of Winterfell, the oldest parts of the Dreadfort, the Wolf's Den and some others it has begun to crumble and it is a never ending task to maintain the castle, however despite this it remains a strong seat overlooking the bite and serves as both a fine home and a fearsome fortress. Oldcastle stands distinct from the newer keeps along the coast, or into the waters of White Harbor for the dark stone smoothed by thousands of years of weather, that and the old squat style of construction. If nothing else despite the wear it looks like it will stand for another few thousand years.   The lands around Old Castle are primarily fishing villages, though there is one farm inland that makes use of the less icy climate of White Harbor and the Neck.
