Farman of Faircastle

House Farman of Faircastle is a noble house from Faircastle on Fair Isle, off the coast of the westerlands. They are sworn to House Lannister of Casterly Rock, and are considered among their principal bannermen. The Farmans are known for their hatred of the ironborn from the Iron Islands.   House Farman's words are The Wind Our Steed. They blazon their arms with three silver ships on blue, a border of crimson and gold.

History

Age of Heroes

The Farmans are an ancient line, dating back to the Dawn Age and the days of the First Men when they ruled as petty kings of Fair Isle and guarded the western coast of Westeros from ironborn reavers with their longships. The Farmans knelt to Tommen I Lannister, King of the Rock, when he raised a great fleet and married the daughter of the last Farman king. The Farmans helped shield the western coast of the Kingdom of the Rock.   When the strength of the westerlands grew while the power of the driftwood kings dwindled, Fair Isle was the first to be liberated from ironborn occupation when Gylbert Farman incited a smallfolk uprising. King Erich V Harlaw retook Fair Isle in his youth, but lost it in his old age.

Targaryen Dynasty

When Prince Vaenor rebelled against his uncle Baelon I Targaryen, House Farman joined the prince against the king in the Battle at Blackwater Fork in 43 AC. In the ensuring battle, Lord Farman and his eldest son were slain defending Vaenor the Uncrowned. Lord Farman's brother Erik succeeded him as Lord of Fair Isle and withdrew his house from the Targaryen infighting.   House Farman has in the years since focused on defending the Westerland coast from the increasing ironborn incursions, occasionally taking the fight to the islands.

Seat and Holdings

Fair isle is just off the western coast of Westeros and is a sizable and well defended piece of land. The coast boasts a number of dedicated emplacements of scorpions and watchtowers, and on the mainland facing side are two dedicated shipyards that serve both to produce and repair Westerland vessels.   Faircastle is located above the Sunset Sea. The castle has a great hall, tall white towers, and dungeons some say will never sit empty so long as Iron born live. The town built around Faircastle stretches to the Northern shipyard connecting the two with a street. The southern shipyard has a small town built around it as well but is not a serious settlement with the majority of the islands population residing around Faircastle itself.
