Stone Lion

The stone lion is a legendary beast that roams the Northern Isles. As a legendary beast, its actual existence outside of the Northern Isles is highly doubted, but locals insist that they are in fact, very, very real.
"Then why don't they prove they exist? Maybe then we'd take them more seriously." Kel asked.   Duncan was surprised at Grub's reaction and tried not to gape too much. It looked as if Grub was going to launch his fist straight into Kel's skull. Instead, he turned his head towards them, with his arms crossed, his dark gaze made Kel's mates back away.   "If you believed they were real, so what? What difference would that make to you?"   "Well I'd go and see it." Kel stuttered.   "The Islanders would shoot you before you set foot on the island. Maybe by not puncturing into the beasts skin, ripping of a scale like a man peeling one's fingernails, they're also saving your stupid ass."
According to what outsiders understand, all legendary beasts are one of a kind. Therefore, should a stone lion exist, only one would roam around the rocky Northern Isle outcrops. As one of the smaller legendary beasts, the stone lion is said to be only 30 ft tall and 60 ft long, and should weight over 2 million kg.   The stone lion is believed to represent justice, yet have a more playful persona than the other stone beasts. It is said to get distracted with rocks, gemstones and wool, and hates large bangs and sounds. It has two scars on its face due to an unfortunate encounter with the stone el'phant.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The stone lion has a mane covered in leaves, vines, and smooth scales of impenetrable grey stone. Its tail moves with the flexibility of a cat, with a sharp edge. While one might fear its sharp claws and incredible bite, the stone lion also has a long, barbed tongue to deal agonising death to those who fail to properly respect it.

Genetics and Reproduction

A legendary beast is said to simply come to existence as if it had always belonged, in a full sized, adult form.

Conservation Status
The Northern Islanders culturally live harmoniously with their hard environment. While it is believed that legendary beasts carry incredible magical power, no known attempt has been made to kill it. Some local stories tell of severe consequences if one attempted to do so.   Uninvited guests are welcomed with arrows and shots of magic. Ships that dare to kiss the borders will meet raging fleets, and pirate crews that bow to no one will cull any remaining survivors. Therefore, it is only practical for Northern Islanders to investigate and observe the legendary beasts.

Love this. I always see the stone lions outside the front of our old parliament and think they'd not be so cute alive! So the way you've turned the common Earth theme of lion statues on its head and made them into real and dangerous magical beast is fun. :) Also saw a giant stone kiwi (mirage) on the beach two days ago and joked about the kiwi rock cafe. Might be dangerous if the stone kiwi, the stone el'phant and the stone lion all met up! :) That, or they could all have cheese scones and a drink. ;)
