Garuda

Garuda (Japanese: 迦楼羅 Karura) is a major character of Project Scarlet Moon. Much like her sister Guren, she is a high-ranking veteran Youkai Hunter who's on a mission to locate and stop Chiyo from starting the Blood Moon.

Personality

Garuda a temper as short as her height. She also has a complex regarding her relatively small size, so she always try to bulk up by eating a lot, often times things/people that are as much or much larger than her, though to her dismay her gains are very short lived due to her very fast metabolism. The angrier she is the hungrier she gets.

Still, she is actually very level-headed with her sister and is surprisingly caring towards her, as she has always admired Guren. Garuda has a very professional/responsible attitude when calm or when the situation demands it. Unlike Guren, howerver, Garuda has no qualms with eating people or youkai alike, and her massive hunger simply cannot be sated with normal sized meals anyway. She gulps anybody who makes fun of her small frame. Only Guren can make funny remarks about her and remain unscathed. One has to pray that whoever gets eaten by Garuda can be brought back by a good onmyouji.

Garuda secretly loves being praised and when her achievements are recognized by those around her.

Garuda formerly behaved more like an ojousama back when she was at her strongest without any curses or ailments holding her back.

Background

Intro

Garuda and her sister, alias Guren, were sent to Yozora's village by the Youkai Hunter's headquarters to protect the residents due to Yozora's (or more accurately, Inari's) premonition that a great disaster would befall on the village.

Unknown. The one Garuda's tasked with defeating in order to stop the Blood Moon.

Guren

Elder sister and youkai hunter partner. Garuda covers for Guren's weaknesses during missions and provides covert support. Is on good terms with her.

Yozora

Acquaintance. The one who has summoned Garuda and Guren to defend the area.

Nonoka

Acquaintance. Provides supplies at her general store. Garuda sometimes argues with her over minor things, but they usually make up within a few days.

Yui

Acquaintance. Helps Garuda and Guren by acting as a bait to lure Chiyo out of hiding.

Giant Eater

She is able to swallow anything (or anybody) much larger than her with no issues. As a consequence, her hunger cannot be completely sated by normal sized food, so she has to eat large animals, youkai, or even people to stay nourished, though when she does have a sufficiently large meal it is enough to keep her fed for days despite her fast metabolism.

Fast Metabolism (Garuda)

As a side-effect to the curse afflicting her, she has an extremely fast metabolism, so anything she eats usually gets digested/absorbed within minutes.

Twin Crow Eggnancy

Garuda's youkai are two eggs that, when hatched, will unleash powerful bird youkai, with one being a powerful cursed tengu while the other is rumored to be at the same power level as the three-legged crow Yatagarasu. One egg is a cursed egg that was forced upon her in the past, while the other one is a sacred egg she obtained from the great kami Amaterasu in a fever dream after experiencing a traumatic event. The cursed egg gave her tengu spells (flight and invisibility) in exchange of her physical traits being fixed to a certain level (i.e. whether it is her her physical prowess, hunger (to an extent), or thiccness, Garuda will never be able to surpass Guren in any of those aspects). The divine egg remains dormant, but due to the enormous amount of energy it requires to hatch, it gave Garuda the power to devour giants so she can properly nurture it. However, the cursed egg seems to be sapping energy away from the divine egg, slowing down the latter's growth.

Final Egg: Sun Crow

When the final egg hatches, the bird spirit binds with Garuda's soul and grants her the ability to nullify any and all abilities, and possibly even fundamental rules, related to the night. She also gains even more accelerated healing and regenerative powers. This also permanently imbues her weapons with the power of the sun, allowing the wielder to deal sizzling, lethal, and incurable damage to youkai of the night. She can also temporarily enchant an area up to a certain radius around her to be under intense sunlight, even at night. Unlike the other egg, the spirit born from this egg is not an evil spirit, but still has a high cost due to its kami-class powers. Garuda will lose her physical form and be considered a youkai once the divine egg hatches. Garuda knows the divine egg is the real source of her gigantic hunger, as well as her variable wingspan.

Tengu Wings

Thanks to her eggs' powers, she can make wings grow out of her back and fly. This enables aerial combat and thus makes her strikes pack more power with the help of gravity alone. Her wings grow bigger the bigger and heavier her belly is.

Tengu Arts: Crow Shikigami

Garuda's youkai can summon shikigami that can possess any bird for the purpose of scouting, spying, or battle support. She can control up to two active crows at once.

Crop Pouch

Much like how birds have a crop, Garuda essentially has a pouch located near her esophagus that allows her to store various items, weapons, consumables, or even prey, large or small. Can be used as a backup stomach. About as versatile as Guren's Navel Pouch and shares a similar function overall. Storing weapons in her crop also allows her to belch out projectiles with great force. She may suck in large amounts of air to puff her chest up, making her bust look bigger, while possibly allowing her to hold her breath longer.

Ninja Arsenal

She has a wide array of hidden weapons, blades, and projectiles hidden in her body and clothes. She seems to be able to seemingly pull them out of thin air and/or from her clothes. She may also burp up the weapon she needs.

Ninja Arts

She can use a wide variety of ninjutsu. Especially deadly when combined with tengu and sun crow spells.

Predatory Arts: Intimidation

She's able to intimidate people through the sheer hungry aura emanated by her formidable appetite. Usually activated/amplified willingly, but sometimes it also happens without her being aware of it happening.

Predatory Arts: Bullet Tongue

She's able to brieftly extend the length of her tongue by concentrating the flow of her Seiryoku to her tongue, similarly to how one would concentrate Seiryoku in their mouths to be able to swallow larger prey.

Predatory Arts: Belch Burst

Her belches are literally destructive enough to break obstacles or incapacitate prey. Perfect as a surprise attack or a finishing move.

Ninja Arts: Ash Orb

As a defensive maneuver, she can use a ninjutsu to surround herself in a sphere made out of ashes. The sphere can explode in a massive smokescreen if she desires. If she's in sun crow mode, she can also make it burst into scorching, radiating sunlight as an attacking move.

Youkai Hunter, Shinobi Type (High Rank)

Having undergone strict and intensive youkai hunting training, the user's body is suitable for combat and has enhanced resistance to adverse Seiryoku effects. Shinobi type has supernatural dexterity and speed, as well as expertise in stealth combat. High rank also means the user's either famous or infamous for their notable deeds and that they have the experience and high-level skills to back them up.

Youkai Hunter Art: Youkai Slayer

Her weapons and predatory arts are all capable of slaying a youkai permanently, preventing them from eventually respawning.

Youkai Hunter Art: Spiritual Tracking

Youkai hunters can detect the presence of souls, and whether it's human, animal, or youkai, much better than the average person. This lets them pinpoint their allies' and foes' location/distance, and for higher ranking youkai hunters, it might be possible to see foes and allies through obstacles as well.

Youkai Hunter Art: Spiritual Shroud

Youkai hunters can effectively silence their souls, supressing their presence and camouflaging themselves against youkai, appearing nearly invisible to them while still being visible to humans. Some youkai have their own shrouds and are able to hide themselves from humans in a similar manner.

Youkai Hunter Art: Warding Talisman

Due to shrine maiden training being part of the requirements of becoming a youkai hunter, youkai hunters are able to create/fix warding talismans that prevent most lower to mid level evil youkai to enter its area of effect. Ideal for setting up camp in dangerous locations. It takes about an hour to complete making or fixing a talisman.

Trivia

• Garuda are the fierce predators of Naga, or snakes, but the natural food for snakes symbolically and mythologically is eggs, meaning Garuda isn't above being preyed upon until after the egg hatches (is gone) and replaced with her status as the Sun Crow.

• Garuda's burps are consistently the loudest among the cast.

• Her alias used to be Yumiya, but was later changed to Garuda for lore reasons.
